As much as I am a Selby fan I was so pleased for Brecel and for what his victory does for Europe. The most charming World Champion since Joe Johnson.

I hope Europe, the low countries and especially Belgium fully capitalise on it. We did have a boom after Doherty in 1997 and a lesser extent 1998, but I don't think we made the most of it. We still haven't come anywhere near producing someone that good.

I think Belgium already has two future stars in Ben Mertens and Julien Leclercq.
Julien is 20 years old and Ben is still only 18, and I'm already impressed by both of them. I think they will be top players soon.

I don't remember Johnson being charming. Maybe it was because I was only ten and was a Jimmy fan.

Joe Johnson is a nice guy.
I got his autograph when I was at The Masters. My ticket fell out of my autograph book, and when I picked it up he glanced at it and said; "Hey! You've got a better seat than me."
Great guy to chat to.

Anyone know who this commentator is?
On Eurosport this time for me in Spain, I could either watch it with the regular commentators like Dale and Joe etc, or this guy by himself. Sometimes I only had this guy as an option, not the regular ones, it is so strange. Why bother to employ another one for a different stream if you already have the mainstays on the matches?

Luca has proven that prime Hendry would destroy prime Selby in a 4 session match. The key to defeat Selby in a 4 session match is a high quality performance in potting and scoring. An average safety game is secondary. And despite Lucas very good performance he still missed a few easy balls which Hendry wouldnt do.
Prime Hendry would beat Selby something like 18:11 or 18:12 in a World final.

Nowhere near is massive hyperbole. In this final the way he came back to 8:9 on the first day was very prime Selby like just like he did in 2014 and 2017. But Luca was flying in the 3rd session and didnt allow history to repeat itself.
My point remains that a strong potting and scoring performance is the key to beat Selby. All out attack Snooker is a much better choice than an allround performance where you try to compete in the safety. Prime Hendrys game was ideal to beat Selby in a 4 session match.

Prime Selby would have missed far fewer clutch balls when closing in on Luca and his safety would have been better. Third session was obviously incredible stuff from Luca though!
Definitely agree that all out attack’s the way to go against Selby though.
