Would anyone buy tickets to something and not look forward to going?

Maybe if you got tickets before the matches were announced, only to find that it was a match that didn't lift your skirt?
I suppose that's the risk you take buying tickets blind. But it's possible that somebody would, I guess?

I've always joked to my mum that I would buy her tickets to a Snooker match as a birthday present. She would definitely sell it if I actually did it as she doesn't like the game at all

SnookerFan's mum would go, but only if Dale is playing.

Or if you buy tickets to a match to see a player, only for him to get himself banned as part of allegations into match fixing.
For example.

will anybody be left in the draw with all these suspensions?
Jimmy might make it to the Crucible outright.

Barry 'The Spoiler' Hawkins.
Has anything like that ever happened before?
