Re: BetVictor Welsh Open Last 128 !!!!!

Postby LDS

There were surprisingly few top 32 seeded players being defeated at the 128 stage, meaning that most of the last 32 still has a very good chance of being the top 32 seeded players.

So even though there were surprisingly few surprises, which is a paradox only sports can provide, there were still a couple or so that have, very interestingly, mostly happened in the same section of the draw, meaning that there is already a non-seeded player guaranteed to be in the Quarter Finals stage, which will delight those left competing in that section immensely.

Those seeded players sadly taken from us in round of 128:

Kurt Maflin (24) - Withdrawn - Section 2
Liang Wenbo (28) - Defeated - Section 3
Thepchaiya Un-Nooh (20) - Defeated - Section 4
Stuart Bingham (13) - Defeated - Section 4
Michael Holt (29) - Defeated - Section 4
Neil Robertson (4) - Withdrawn - Section 4

So one of these lucky players is in for a personal cheevo of the year, both for themselves and for any followers of the Think Pink tables:

Remaining in Section 4 (one now guaranteed to be in the QFs):

Robert Milkins - current ranking 44, aged 44
Mark King - cr 50, aged 46
Sam Craigie - cr 51, aged 27
David Grace - cr 59, aged 35
Alexander Ursenbacher - cr 62, aged 24
Jamie Jones - cr 71, aged 33
Jak Jones - cr 75, aged 27
Jordan Brown - cr 81, aged 33

Robert Milkins last made the QFs of the WO in his run to the Semis in season 2016/7
This could be Mark King's best run in the WO since his Semi Final In the 2004/5 season.
Sam Craigie has never made it beyond the last 32 of the WO before.
David Grace has also never got past the last 32.
Ursenbacher has a chance to beat his record of a last 16 spot in the 2018/9 season.
Jamie Jones has also never got past the last 32.
Jak Jones has also never passed the last 32 before.
Getting to the last 64 has already equalled Jordan Browns best showing in the WO from last season.

Milkins' best showing so far this season in any event has been a QF, but it was in the Shootout.
Mark King hasn't been past round 2 in any event yet this season.
Sam Craigie hasn't been past round 3 in any event this season.
David Grace could be on course to repeat his Semi Final run in the Scottish Open.
Ursenbacher also hasn't been past R3 yet this season.
Like-wise, Jamie Jones might be on to repeat his Scottish Open SF position.
Jak Jones made the QFs of the English open this season.
Jordan Brown made the QFs of the German Masters this season.

So, all-in-all, quite an even bunch of players, with not a lot to call between any of them. All highly unpredictable.

One question : what is / are cheevo(s)? :chin:

It's a relatively new word that is currently in mass circulation. It is short-hand for Achievements, popularised by most computer games having collectable rewards called Achievements that are attained by doing something in-game, often a uniquely interesting circumstance having been 'achieved', but sometimes just from playing the game normally and getting past a certain point.

Different achievements have different rarities.

For example: Defeat the boss of level 1 of the mysterious crypt - common, 83% of players have achieved this.
or: Upgrade your horse armour to Silk of the Jester standard for every slot - rare, 2% of players have achieved this.

Etc.

Because the word Achievement is such a long word, with somewhat awkward spelling, but is used so much, it's inevitable that a short-hand emerged.
