But lucky you, I never got to experience that amazing atmosphere. Even from watching at home, I could tell the Conference Center was probably the best venue Snooker's ever had.

For the first time in his life, Parrott made a half way decent point.
You don't know that you'll be playing. And you are told to stay at home unless absolutely necessary.
It's easy to say it's a no-brainer, but he didn't know people would pull out. Maybe he decided to spend time with his family rather than quarantine in his hotel room on the off-chance that somebody pulled out.
