Having an early big lead against Selby can be dangerous.

Never thought I'd say this but I think the closeness keeps ROS focused. He's not great as a front runner these days anyway.

I agree. Big leads suck.

Compelling session, but hardly awe-inspiring.

Ronnie potted some terrific long ones. I think both players struggled a bit with the conditions. Lots of kicks in the beginning.

He looked strong in the departments I wanted to see him looking strong: long potting and safety. My point is that Sullivan fans are acting like this was a missed opportunity. Okay, he should probably have a 6-2 lead instead of 5-3, but if you're not exactly playing brilliantly, 5-3 is a result.

Selby could have made more of his chances and so could Ronnie so id say on balance of play 5-3 Ronnie is spot on.

Yup, I don't think Sullivan has had a bad result here, as the tone appears to suggest. Selby was in first in quite a few frames, particularly early doors.

Yes. You never get answered back that way.

O'Sullivan played spectacularly at long potting but was passable at every aspect. Selby slightly worse in the other aspects and a lot worse at long potting

Yea but by going 4-1 Selby could have crumbled because of late he has against far worst players than O'Sullivan so the thought of 7-1 had started and 5-3 is seen as not quite what they wanted.

the scores. as you can see. Both had chances in every single frame. Ronnie made five half tons but Selby had still good scoring opportunities in those frames.

I can live with the result. Higgins was 6:2 ahead in the world final and we know how that ended when Selby got into his comeback mood.

Ronnie needs to pull away at the right time and thats the third session.

Is Ash being left back tomorrow, I have to ask?

He has picked up two 24-hour bans since being given a reprieve not two weeks ago from his lifetime ban. This evening he was back on Twitter calling me a coward, although he has changed his username to 'Adolf Hitler'.

I thought O'Sullivan's tactical play was bang-on. It won't work every frame, but it will create the kind of chances he was not getting in 2014 or 2010.

The pressure comes in these long matches if you feel you should have pulled away and you havent.

In the 2004 and 2008 semi vs Hendry Ronnie pulled away in the second session he will be hoping for the same

4th session will be brutal for Ronnie if the result is close. Can't see him win as he'll get more and more tired and maybe start become a bit impatient.

But long way to go before that. So far so good for ROS.
