Any other year King would be a banana skin for Ding.
But not this year.

No guarantee that O'Sullivan is going further than round 1. Tough draw

Surely all players should be treated equally?
Somebody has to play Monday morning.

Not really, if a player has an absolutely massive fanbase and ridiculous box office draw such as Ronnie, Judd or Jimmy White if he'd qualified they should be guaranteed afternoon or evening sessions.

Could be a masterstroke then. If the fanbase is that committed, they’ll have a much bigger audience than they would usually get for a Monday morning session.

Or you know, the entire fan base is busy working missing the sessions meaning your missing tens if not hundred of thousands of viewers by shoving the best match when nobody can watch it.

At least these days getting up early on a Monday morning shouldn't bother Ronnie so much. Back in the day you couldn't schedule Jimmy in for 10am Monday. He'd be only getting in around then after Sunday night.

Didn't he and Kirk Stevens turn up to a match against eachother still coked off their tits from the night out together the night before some time in the 80s? Or is that an urban legend?

From what I can remember Ronnie does usually start in the afternoon, usually a Tuesday (might not be right in that though.) Afternoon’s no better than morning really, but the BBC assume that their fanbase is retired pensioners. Eurosport usually show him in the evening.
Judd as world champ obviously opens the tournament.
And at the moment most of his fans probably aren’t working full-time anyway, or are working from home. Maybe that’s why they’ve switched it up, perfect opportunity to get fans to tune in in the morning and stay watching for the whole day.

Also, I don't think the BBC like tucking Ronnie away on the Red Button.
His first round match at The Masters is usually an afternoon. So unless it's a Sunday, will be on when most people are at work anyway.

Why playing a 2nd session the Monday while Ronnie & Thep can easily play 19 frames in 1 session ?

Most of Ronnie's fans are in China. The morning session is the best time, it's a 5pm start here.
