I must inform you though we have our own private mods only watch the watch thread, for safety reasons. <laugh>

Wild kind of minded a couple of years ago, but to be fair, we'd got out of hand posting a Watch thread for everything.

He's top-16. We start with a qualifier in the first round.

Cahill isn't a bad-shout actually.

It’ll end up as Ding eventually.

Good of you to explain it to us.

There is always somebody who gets the rules confused every year. rofl

Should James Cahill be this year's first Watch Thread?

Postby SnookerFan

Anybody who votes no is invited to suggest somebody else.

RULES. The first Watch Thread has to be somebody playing in the first round of matches. Should they lose, whoever beats them gets their own Watch Thread for the next round.

This poll will run for 48 hours.

That is what we're doing, you absolute cretin. That's what The Watch Thread is.

We have to decide on who gets the first Watch Thread before the tournament starts. Only one player can have one at a time.

Last year didn't a new one get created each time and it was a debacle? Isnt that why you asked if the mods minded?

Cretin. haha. Classic 90s insult.

That was the year before I think. And it wasn't so much that a new one got created. It was that people were taking the snake hiss with it, and creating a Watch Thread for everybody, not just the people who deserved it. "John Higgins missed a shot, Let's Watch" etc.

Maybe I should just retire this. Everybody acts like it's some big tradition, but I'm not really sure if anybody understands what it actually is. rofl

Of course, I am not one usually involved in this sort of thing, but might I suggest Igor Figueiredo? I took note of him in the list of entrants. Like myself, he is far, far, far from the epicenter of snooker with little outside support for his passion so only has the fire in his belly to carry him. I doubt there are any official records of this, but I am quite certain that he has the highest tournament break ever compiled on American soil with a 146 at the Pan American Championship in February 2019. He showed great character when he completely misplayed the final Red to position on Black leaving himself smack between Pink and Black. After a chuckle at his stupidly played stroke, he proceeded to pot Pink into the Green pocket perfectly positioning for the clearance.

Under different conditions, Igor might have been a top player. Recognition is in order for him sticking it out despite having a whelk's chance in a supernova going very far in the game. It would be great for him to have some fans behind him and for him to make his mark this year.
