Yes, the snooker season doesn't begin in earnest until Ronnie plays his first match.
On that note, Ronnie's first match might very well be of the "grudge" variety, as his first round opponent is likely to be Ali Carter...

For Others the Snooker Season doesn't start until the English Open for Others in October the reality is the season starts as soon as someone Breaks off in the very first Match of the season.
Ronnie is only as good as his last Match Loosing to Cahill 1st round in Sheffield on the other hand Judd been winning tournaments.

Ronnie is only good as his last match? So by that logic you reckon Cahill is a better player than Ronnie?
What an utter load of garbage.

Ronnie could play Carter. Hope he does, as it will be first meeting since the shoulder barge incident.
Lucrative event, a shame its a non-ranker now.

Didn't Murphy get injured pre-Paul Hunter Classic?
Or is this a different injury?

Unofficially, it will be Wu Yize and Zhao Jianbo, who are both very dangerous but extremely young. The other two places are still to be decided by a qualifying tournament today.

The amateurs will be Zhang Yi and Cao Jin. These players are strictly 'amateur' in the sense that they don't play snooker full-time. In China, they use the term 'professional' even for players who don't have a world tour card. There are dozens of players who make a living out of snooker who only play in China, including many former professionals. There are several Chinese Pro-am events (such as the recent one in Huizhou won by Yuan Sijun), and income from coaching or money matches. These players, plus the academy kids, weren't eligible for this.

You see PTC was criticised big time by Top Players but effectively missed by Lower Rank Players. Top Players wanted more summer Off and lower rank players wants to play during the summer ie Earn Cash. Top players loves invitationals they can play and earn without the pressure of ranking points while lower rank players cant play in them.
Seriously How can Barry Hearn keep everyone Happy?

Easy. Change the ranking system. It would solve all problems that exist in snooker!

An incremental system - if you win it goes up, if you lose it goes down. That way
every tournament is a ranking tournament, including Shanghai, the Masters, Champion of Champions, Austrian Open, my local club championship, etc. Many more summer invitational events, players can pick and choose their schedules. We don't have these qualifying rounds in Barnsley and Preston, and organisers are guaranteed to get the players they want in the venues. It would also address the issue of slow/negative play. What's not to like?
