Good to see some admiration for one of the games finest cueists on here. The often derided Murphy has a wee fanbase.

There's something about his cue action that I really dislike, visually. It's like there's a needless flourish about it or something.
But yeah when he's flying he's great to watch.

Ding’s scoring is not impressive tonight.
Didn’t see the afternoon matches; what was his highest break against Georgiou?

He had a 130+ break but was not very consistent. Georgiou capitulated though

Got a feeling he might get another ton here though...

Wow - I think Ding has some problems with his game at the moment that will need some serious work.
To be fair, this could easily have been 6-1

Just rustiness in case of Ding. Fair to say he probably doesnt practice as much as he's got to.
But as I've been saying for a couple of years. It seems he's only extra motivated for the World Championship these days.

He had messed up that frame on top of the previous one and was finding it hard to accept that parity was going to be his lot at the interval. He should have conceded and stopped wasting more mental anguish in what was a futile attempt at retrieving a lost frame.
I read this and it sounded like Clive Everton in commentary.
Shame he isnt at this tournament. Hope he recovers well, the man is the last true great commentator of the old generation.

Ding never gets my juices flowing. It's his demeanour and body language that doesn't exude much confidence. Or any interest at times. When he's bad he's woeful.

Murphy was lucky there he didn't leave an easier black on for Ding. But overall he clearly was the superior player and deserved to win.

I agree. Always the most vulnerable of the top players.

Ding is only really motivated for some tournaments in China and of course the Worlds.
I wish he could win more tournaments in the UK like he used to, but apparently it seems that wont happen. As long as he wins the Worlds one day its all good.

I'd have much preferred Ding to win, but Murphy was clearly the better player.
Looking forward to some politician speak in his interview now.
