Middle Monday has no morning play, and Ding Junhui just needs one more frame to book a Quarter-Final meeting with Barry Hawkins. On the flip side, nothing can separate Judd Trump and Ricky Walden, locked at 8 each, could go all the way this one.

In the evening, Mark Williams holds a 10-6 lead over Robert Milkins, whilst John Higgins demolished Jack Lisowski 13-1 and therefore has an extra day off. It's only the 5th time in Crucible history this has happened, the others were Steve Davis beating Mike Hallet and Neal Foulds beating Doug Mountjoy, both in 1988, as well as John Parrot with a win over Tony Knowles in 1991, and Dominic Dale in his win against David Gray in 2000.

I think the commentators are talking rubbish. If you try to win with a session to spare, you are looking for trouble. I am sure that Ding was just playing his normal game to the best of his ability and will continue to do so.

The prospect of a third session is no problem for him. Doesn't he live round the corner anyway?

That's my point really SF. Some players - Ali say - might be keen to get in the car and go home for a day or two. For Ding, an extra (probably short) session is not such an inconvenience. Playing for a quick win can be a dangerous strategy.

When Higgins or Selby plays like that but gets a result, we praise their ability to perform as part of their b-game.

Dont know about Ding but i know Hendry was trying to get a day off and win matches with a session to spare if he could and sometimes his standard droped
