Fu is a far better player now than he was then - and certainly more consistent.
Back in 2006, with no disrespect to Fu, it was a bit of a surprise to see him get through as far as he did, even if he did play some good snooker to knock-out Maguire who was world number 3 at the time, and Doherty who was on his way to number 2 for the following season. Back then, Marco Fu reaching the second round of a world championship would be considered a surprise (I think 2006 was only the second time he'd gotten past the first round)
It's only hindsight which suggests that 2006 was his best chance, - would he have beaten Dott? Possibly? but no guarantees when you remember Dott played very well throughout the championship and indeed sent O'Sullivan out with some comfort.
Yes, I agree, he's probably still a little bit too inconsistent to win the World Championship but a Marco Fu world title win isn't the long shot it would be considered a decade ago.

Couldn't have said it better
However, being honest I don't think he'll win this one.

I must say I was probably the first one here to post the Foulds interview computer response like, and at the time I found it funny more than anything else.
But now, with his behaviour at people just trying to do their job and not even asking so called controversial questions, I agree with what most have said here already: his behavious is getting ridiculous, childish, and it's not helping him focus on the main job of trying to win a match, nevermind a tournament.
If he keeps getting like this until the Worlds, we might see 2015 World Champs all over again for him.
I found the singing of that Oasis song cringeworthy. Could he not have sung something from Motörhead or Arctic Monkeys instead?

His best chance was last year, but he shat the bed against Selby.

I remember when he used to work for BBC. Jason Mohammad replaced him.

Selby is Selby so you know he's in with a shout.
Robertson seems to be coming into form at the right time, and because of the long matches all he needs is one session per match where his long potting is on fire.
Trump is obviously in great form as well and his lapses of concentration aren't as big a flaw in multi-session matches.
I'd also put Hawkins up there because he's become something of a Crucible specialist.
Can't see Ronnie winning this year. Same with Higgins despite his two big wins.
I'm sure I've missed someone out but there are always around half a dozen contenders.

Selbo is the raging hot favourite. And raging hot.
