He just won the Riga Masters not long ago so that statment <ok>

But he's not playing great in recent times that is a certainty.

Wow the Riga Masters, what a great tournament steeped in history.

I think he's finished as a top 4 player and a favourite for every event.

It's a ranking tournament whethe you like it or not  Same as Selby winning the Paul Hunter Classic.

Saying he's finished is the same as saying Ronnie is in DECLINE everytime he loses a match since 2010

I think everyone needs to appreciate that every tournament is important, sure there's always the bigger tournaments but they all hold prize money, rankings and I'm pretty sure all players try their best to win them.

Trying to belittle them is getting a bit old now.

I just don't think anyone will be 'dominating' snooker in the near future, and all the players are going to find it difficult to be consistent in a season of 19 Ranking Events.
Everybody will succumb to exits before the business-end of competitions.

Looking at the current 2-year prize-money based ranking system, and using the average prize-money for each stage of this seasons rankers:

Lose in Last 128 = 0 = £0
Lose in Last 64 = 2 = £3,378
Lose in Last 32 = 3 = £13,180
Lose in Last 16 = 4 = £29,358
Lose in Quarters = 4 = £46,579
Lose in Semis = 3 = £63,375
Lose in Final = 2 = £78,974
Winner = 1 = £89,908

Total money won = £325,151
: over 2 seasons = £650,302

That sort of form would be pushing the number 1 Ranking - almost certainly 2nd.
But, still includes being knocked out before the last-16 on five occasions, EACH season!

Granted, this is very much a back-of-a-postcard calculation!

Back of a postcard calculation or not, you're right PoolBoy.

Even the very top players will have very early exits in a season. If you manage to win 1 or 2 rankers in a season these days, you've had a very good season. And with the amount of them nowadays you can have the "luxury" of a few early exits. It's not like the bad old days when only 6 rankers a season.

Some fans have been saying they preferred those days. It's baffling, to me.

So if Holt had won it would you be saying he is a top player. I'm not saying he won't win tournaments of the ilk but I think his days as a major contender are over

What do you mean by top player?

You have to be a top player to win a ranking event at all, in my opinion. It's not like some bloke from down the pub could just turn up with a cue and win a ranking event.

Do you mean he's taken a cue from the pub? That would be unlikely. It would be a pool cue for a start. Duh.

A top player as in they're at the top of the game. A top 4 player if you like.

Don't want or mean to be disrespectful but there's only one player who could possibly win the million bonus left in this event

Implying that there was ever a player capable of winning it. Maybe a Davis or a Hendry could have done it in their time, but BO7s? Higher standard of players throughout the entire 128? Doubtful.

It was kind of funny and amusing to start with, but it's really getting silly now.
