Big win for Saengkham, Carrington loses out

Postby roy142857

I picked up on the significance of Gerard Greene losing to Noppon Saengkham yesterday from the point of view of dropping Greene out of the end of season Top 64.

What I did miss is that the win gets Noppon Saengkham a potentially easier draw at the start of World Championship qualifying, by moving him up into the Top 96 for the World Championship (into 95th if we ignore Stephen Lee, currently 84th but suspended). The qualifying round involving the Pro players involves those ranked 65th - 96th playing those ranked 97th and below (with prize money of £1000 to the winners), so instead of potentially drawing say Sam Baird or Luca Brecel, Saengkham may now draw Lee Page or Alexander Ursenbacher.

Ignoring Stephen Lee, the new 97th player is Stuart Carrington, who cannot improve his position at the PTC finals.

Actually ranked 97th, but 96th from this point of view, is Alex Davies. HIs 'Top 96' spot is slightly vulnerable, were Lǚ Hàotiān to have a run to the semi finals at the PTC finals.
