If rolling rankings were in place already, Doherty would have slowly climbed the rankings this season anyway isntead of the current system where you have to wait until the end of the season to be rewarded or punished for your overall form for the season, where you can indeed still jump a lot of places up or down in the rankings.
Anyone who says that due to the lack of tournaments in snooker, rolling rankings wouldnt work is talking nonsense frankly. Yes a 1 year rolling ranking system wouldnt work at the moment, hopefully in time if Hearn sorts things out, but a 2 year rolling ranking is definetly the way to go from next season.
Got to be better to have the 2 year results the rankings are based on to the be the most recent 2 years of results rather than the current position as of now where none of the results in the last 11 months are counting for anything....yet!!
It could be brought in straight away at the start of next season without any real difference actually as straight after the first tournament the rankings are updated then the qualification / automatic qualifiers are determined for the 2nd tournament.

i agree with this rolling ranking idea, and like you said above players like doherty would be rewarded straight away instead of waiting till the end of the season

A Real Rolling Rankings would not start from Doherty at 8 but at his current Rankings of 30 + with points dropping off as the season goes on and points being added to the score from current tournaments for example after this years WC Points John Higgins earned as winner last season is replaced with points he gained this year and so on and on.

i see, then after each tourney they would drop of the years before.
Isn't this what they do on the pdc darts?

yes.
thats why to make a rolling ranking really work you got to get enough tournaments to make it consistant.
for example with no barhain championship or Northern Ireland trophy this season the points earned for them would have to be dropped off but nothing in their place.

yes, and likewise if it was a 2 year rolling rankings system currently in place then Ronnie would be all set to lose the 10,000 points from winning the 2008 WC so would be under pressure with a lot of points to defend that he would lose.
Its amazing how hard it is and how many times you have to explain rolling rankings to people, its really is a piece of cake

yep, thats whty to starty off with i would favour a 2 year rolling rankings system until we have enough tournaments in place to justify only a 1 year rolling rankings

I would prefer this as they do in tennis but its just a problem of when one year there is a tournament then next year its not there and nothing has replaced it. Again like tennis if we get to a stage where there are say 30+ tournaments a year that carry ranking points then they should take the best 18 results which would have to include the WC, UK and all other major ranking events.
