So a player could be ranked higher if they for example were the only player to make a 147 all season at the Crucible?

high break and 147 prizes wont count towards your total when a proper order of merit that comes into play <ok>

Thinking about it I wouldn't seeing it to be fair. It could add some excitement if say a player needs to win a match to get into the 16 but are say 7-0 down then they could start going for a 147 as that might get them in instead.

take Carter for example, all the round 1 games he lost, well under a flat 128 set up and money list, he wouldnt earn any moeny for them so hed be a good bit further down, though obviously a World runner up does you a WORLD of good, pardon the pun.

yes thats a good point but its to top heavy that it rewards fluking a good win.

Peter Ebdon has been marmite with a capital S this season but one good result = a good season with Money Rankings suerly with a season of 13 PTC and about 12 Main Rankers next season having one good run does not equate to a high ranking possition.

Currently despite being China Open Champion Ebdon is 33rd on the one year list because hes been absalutly pants and one Good Result should never be regarded as a Season Turnaround if results elsewhere been marmite.

yeh but winning a so called big tournament has to be worth far more than consistently winning a few PTC games here and there

the OOM will mean that the PTCs will have lesser importance in terms of their ranking significance but its clear at the moment there vastly over allocated points. For a PTC to be 1/5 of the Worlds is a joke really.

what the OOM will mean is fewer big names will play the PTCs but some always will do, but it will also bolster opportunities for younger guys to earn money though the Kings and Hamiltons of this world who are essentially journeymen scrapping a living , will play in 90% of these events etc.

Re: Prize Money Rankings are here!

What the money list demonstrates emphatically is that the World Championship will distort things, or rather weight the rankings in a players favour if he does well in it. Hence Higgins & O'Sullivan at 1 & 2 despite missing 20+ ranking events between them in the 2 season cycle. Also, world runner-up catapulted to 7th thanks to the 125,000 points this equates to (I've no problem with the world runner-up being top 8, regardless of his other results).

Another thing a money list highlights for me is that players new to the tour, both last season and this, who have climbed the rankings due largely to good PTC runs (Jones, Lisowski, Xiao), are all lower ranked on the money list. Jones in particular would have been in the 40's without his Crucible run. Plus, with a money list, there are no "starter" points equivalent; hence lower placings for Delu, Yan etc

Does anyone know if Hearn plans to introduce a cash penalty for first round losers? I mean, if a seeded player loses at the Crucible, will he still get 12,000 ranking points?!? I'm sure it'll all become clear, but this is why I think he is handing out 2 year tour cards (no starter points needed), and wants to introduce a flat 128 draw (so as no-one gets "automatic" points).

I've done a list to see what the cash rankings over the last 2 years would look like if first round seeded losers got "nothing". I'll post it when I get in from work, but here's a couple of pointers:

- it's not THAT different to the actual cash list, with a few exceptions
- the Crucible still has a massive weighting to first round losers.....it's not good to lose your first match in the Worlds....especially if you have already lost your first round UK match(!)
- at least 3 journeymen have a 10 place fall

Re: Prize Money Rankings are here!

Postby JIMO96

Like I said, the World Championship still has a heavy influence; Stephen Lee (first round loser in both the Worlds and UK) would find himself 4 places lower with the "no cash for first round losers" system.

Greene, McManus and Dunn, as you would expect, would be exposed as being in a "false position" should their "protection" be removed.

Other regular first round losers who would find themselves with a fight on their hands include: Perry, Fu, Cope, Doherty, King, Wenbo, Bond, Steve Davis and Joyce. The list also demonstrates why the likes of Gunnell and Drago dropped out of the 64....too many first round losses.

Chief beneficiaries of this system: Hawkins, Day, Burnett, Hamilton(!), Selt, Gilbert, Woollaston, Chuang.

Theres little difference from about 64 downwards, as there's no prize money until the last 64 anyway, hence Brecel, Baird, Yan etc staying relatively still.

This is my first attempt at the new "money list" rankings; obviously, they're a bit strangely ordered, but the figures here include APTC1, plus the qualifying rounds for Wuxi and Australia (minimum prize funds included for both).

Figures in Euros (I read somewhere that £1=1.2 Euros for ranking purposes, so I've a funny feeling they'll be published in Euros)

Re: Prize Money Rankings are here!

I should mention that this list commenced at the start of 2012-13 season and contains events from that season ONLY. I'll add in tournaments as and when they happen, and it'll eventually take shape.

I've also assumed, for the moment, that first round seeded losers still get a full cash allocation (although I'm hoping this will change). And before anyone asks, high break prizes DO NOT count.

Re: Prize Money Rankings are here!

Why would it be published in euros?
The reason the conversion rate is there is because events played in Europe are actually paid in euros.

Because if 1 GBP = 1.2 Euro, then conversely, 1 Euro = 5/6ths of £1. Euros will be neater, for example:

Losing quarter finalists at EPTCs get 2000 Euros; if published in GBP, it would be £1666.67.
Whereas losing quarter finalists in the PTCs get £1500; if published in Euros, it'd be 1800....nice and neat.

I could be completely wrong of course....second guessing World Snooker occupies a lot of peoples time these days. Plus, there'll still be a messy conversion from $AUS anyway.

money rankings will work in terms of figures not actual worth of money say Australian open worth $AUS 30,000 and the Welsh Open Worth £30,000 and a player wins both it equates to 60,000 points.

one of the things Barry Hearn has said Regarding Money Rankings it will be easier to work out for the Public (buck knows where he gets that crappy rubbish from) but that what he said so starting to mess around with conversion rates and currency will prove far more complicated than points.

Is this true, Wild? Where did you hear this? If this is the case, then it would simplify things big time. It would also make the Goldfields fairly big in ranking terms (70K to the winner)

im looking at the PTC Rankings of the last 2 years

Euro PTC Getting €10,000

UK PTC Getting £10,000

Actual Money £18,000 or €22,000 but point wise it was 20,000 points

Yeah that's true, and it would make sense to continue that way. However, in the June edition of "Snooker Scene", it states:

"A new ranking system based on prize money rather than ranking points is to be phased in over the next two years. In that period, it will run parallel to the existing system. For the purposes of the new system, £1 will be worth €1.2...."

if that's true then this notion that prize money rankings will be easier to understand doesn't add up.

does that mean if you go to an event where theres hyperinflation and win a million rupees or something thats only the equivalent of a grand here in pounds, that you will get a million points??

of course it will all be converted to pounds

stick your money on the table then.

if im right you give me 100 pounds

if your right ill give you 100 euros :pal:

The PTC different kettle of fish but in future once it moves to proper Order of Merit theyll convert the prize money there to Pounds beforehand for simplicity.

After all the Chinese events, the prize money is in pounds Sterlin as opposed to Chinese Renminbi.

I reckon the European events are only in Euros at the moment to fool fans and players into thinking prize money is better than what it actually is.

Think that's the guaranteed prize money he gets for being in the last 32 of the International Championship.

with Regard to Money Rankings

not Playing in PTC Events wont be as costly as they are now however not being in the PTC Grand Finals would be more costly when there's a winners ranking point haul of about 100,000 only available to 32 players.

Re: Prize Money Rankings are here!

Postby JIMO96

Anyone seen the list? At first glance it seems to have been hastily put together......some of the figures under the heading "Ranking Points Position" are ridiculous (Tony Drago 142nd? Rod Lawler 130th?).

Also, under "2 year list points", Yu Delu has 47000 and Adam Duffy 40000(!) Which places both of them comfortably in the top 32, so someone's screwed up somewhere....

No info on Euro conversion rate, but looking at Pankaj Advani's cash figure, he's won £200, £1000 and 3000 Euros from his 3 completed events, so his total of £3600 means that his 3000 Euro prize last weekend has been converted to £2400, that is, 75%.

It seems also that players are allocated figures earnt whilst not on the main tour. I don't know how else they can arrive at Joel Walkers figure, for example. Plus, Cao Yupeng has his World Championship earnings included......despite the actual points earned not counting in the current rankings.

I'll have a closer look once home from work, and try and make sense of it.
