Yes he's definitely interested in his ranking and doing the bear minimum to stay in the top 16.

I couldnt be fussed doing this for the whole tour but since Big Brother was nuffing special i set about taking the current top 32 and seeing what points they have to lose before the World Championship cut off point after the Welsh Open. (why the hell the cut off is before theres still Germany 5,000 pts, India 5,000, China 7,000 and PTC Finals 3,000 to play for i dont know !?!?!)

(points to lose in next 2 windows - 2009 UK championship / 2010 Welsh Open)

so here effectively is the current provisional rankings ahead of the World Championships with 9 PTCS (18,000 pts), UK (8,000) and Welsh (5,000) still to come before then.

1 Mark J Williams 58560 (3040 + 2500) = 53,020

AFTER ROUND 1 AT SHANGHAI

(MY PREDICTIONS / COMMENTS)

11 Stuart Bingham 40035 - (some run of form, well safe and top 16 for a long time to come sadly)
12 Mark Allen 39265 - (vital win yday will ensure his place at this cut off)
13 Ronnie O’Sullivan 39000 - (likewise for Ronnie tho a semi run at least here surely for more points)
14 Stephen Lee 37110- ( win today woulda sealed his place IMO, still in with a shout tho)
15 Matthew Stevens 36975 - (win orbust today almost, still touch and go tho)
16 Mark Davis 36500 - ( i think he will drop out come the cut off time)
---------------------------------------------------
17 Martin Gould 36450 - (best win of career today id say but still needs to keep it going)
18 Jamie Cope 35100 - ( critical win yday but still needs a good run here i feel to have a chance)
19 Stephen Hendry 34260 - (23 years in elite comes to an end ahhhhh can only see him sliding down)
20 Peter Ebdon 33680 - (disastrous start to season so back to qualifiers for Ebdon)

Re: The Battle for the top 16

Postby Wildey

i think Hendry droping out is a blessing hes now top 4 of the next Level

it had become almost a man on a cliff edge clinging on by the end i think he will relax a bit now with nothing to protect.

Who would you say the top 4 qualifiers are?

Re: The Battle for the top 16

Postby Witz78

Assuming the top 16 was to stay as it was then the top 4 non top 16 players IMO would come from Hendry, Stevens, Ebdon, Cope, Day, Fu, King, Perry.

Its honestly hard to seperate them 8 if on form, they all are too inconsistent.

i think cope is 2 far gone and not playing good enough to get in the top 16 i think its between Lee,Stevens,Davis and Gould one of them will miss out on the top 16

i think Lee will be ok, his PTC form been good

Would prob make Mark Davis or Gould the favourites to finish outside the top 16 but you just never know.

well tomorrows Gould v Stevens match is massive Stevens could secure his place tomorrow with a win i know theres PTC to come but you talking getting in to a PTC quarter final for Gould without stevens winning anything

Re: The Battle for the top 16

Postby kostasmad

Stevens 99% top 16...He is 15th and the 18th (Cope) is 2700 points behind...with 2 PTCs left no chance he will be out of the top 16...

What is left is to see whether Gould will take the 16th spot from M.Davis...only 100 points difference...

Re: The Battle for the top 16

Postby Wildey

It just goes to show under the 6 or 7 Ranking Title season Williams would be the Provisional no 1 with Higgins second and Selby 3rd.

But heres the thing Stephen Hendry would still be 12th Despite playing marmite and when you consider under this system How far down Mark Williams Fell just how bad did he play if hendry can still stay top 12 ??

BUT

its all change that is How important the PTC is now and i think its great.

Stevens 14th and 1365 points ahead of 17th

Lose 2mora and 2 no scoring PTCs and hell prob be pipped.

Re: The Battle for the top 16

whats the difference to 18th or 19th got to do with how safe you are in he top 16

so long as the 17th man is still within reach he can still drop out.

Cause no one is sure whether the 15th or 16th will pass him as well...he has 3 people behind him that should pass him...Not 1...

yes but this is only mathematical you cant guess what will happen.

next you say he has 3 people behind him that should pass him :dizzy: :excite: :litfart:

You're technically wrong there, you can't be 99% in the top 16, either 100% or 0%
