Re: Latest Provisional Rankings Discussion Topic

Postby JIMO96

Just seen a conversation on Twitter between Matt (Pro Snooker Blog) and Ron (Cuetracker) which, if accurate, reveals which points from 2010 will drop off in November. They are:

PTC's 3-6
EPTC's 1-4
Shanghai Masters
World Open

Updated provisional seedings to follow.....

Re: Latest Provisional Rankings Discussion Topic

Tournaments that have come off are in my previous post above Snooky. Looks like they've taken the sensible option of chopping a tournament from the list once it is 2 years old, instead of trying to match 2010 to 2012 tournament for tournament. If this is the case, then WSA should be praised for taking the simplest approach.

That last sentence is something I thought I'd never say.

Apparently points drop off up to end of October 2010. Higgins will start to shoot up to no 3 I think Matt said. He said it's the hardest rankings update he's ever had to do! Will take him most of today to update.

yea but next cut off Higgins will have 11,600 points deducted from his first 3 events back which includes the UK.

Re: Latest Provisional Rankings Discussion Topic

Yes we know that though. When Higgins was banned we knew in 2 years time those events would mean he'd shoot up the rankings, and then when Higgins won the UK and Worlds we knew in 2 years time he'd have more points to defend. But buck me, what a season he had then. We'll look back on that in years to come as a master at work.

great season but he did not play all that well most of the time it has to be said many times players did let him off.

I seen a bit of him yesterday and he didn't look great at all. I'm sure his motivation isn't great for these PTC's but he has aged terribly. He looks like a man in his mid to late 40's.

He looks older than my dad, who's 50. Then all snooker players look either too young or too old.

And proving his status just like a Wn1 should, just a shame he lost this final.

GJ with Selby not playing both Australia and Wuxi Robbo can build a very handy lead.

After the Bulgarian Open Neil Robertson is Officially the World no 1 Leading Selby by 280 points unless Selby Loses in the first Round in the Yixing Open selby will be back at no 1 until after the Wuxi classic where Neil Robertson will take over again.

i dont see the point in updating the rankings like that unless the positions will be used to seed players in tournaments.

Shame that but I guess if you're top 5 on the Q School list you're pretty much a professional this season what with Lee and Hendry as well. Most events will have at least a handful of stay at homes, probably only the UK and Worlds will have a full house of professionals enter

it really is sad to see the demise of Canadian Snooker from the heady heights of Thorburn, Stevens and Big Bill.

in 1984 there was no fewer than 6 Canadians at the Crucible.

former Malta pro Alex Borg is on the list, maybe he got the wildcard from worldsnooker
to join the Main Tour?

Apparently on facebook he confirmed that he has received a two-year tour card.

I cant seem to find his page... but theres a quote from Snooker Croatia on friday:

I note that on the European PTC Order Of Merit on snooker.org its listing players as outside the top 64 as being the 8 that will qualify for a tour card next season if they haven't already by any other means.

Has it been confirmed that its still only the top 64 that will qualify for next season even though the number of entrants has risen to 128 (or thereabouts)?

Or are they just going along with how it has been until something official is confirmed?

I think it will remain the top 64. Remember, members new to the tour this year have 2 year tour cards. I think the make up of tour next year will be something along these lines:

Money Ranking List: 64*
Two Year Tour Cards: 36*
Euro OOM: 8
Asia OOM: 4
Euro P/O: 3
Q School: 12
IBSF World Champion: 1
IBSF World U21 Champion: 1
EBSA European Champion: 1
EBSA European U21 Champion: 1
ACBS Asian Champion: 1
ACBS Asian U21 Champion: 1
Oceanian Champion: 1
African Champion: 1
Americas Nomination: 1

TOTAL: 136*

* Number will be less if new members on tour are ranked above 64...

We currently have 133 (should be 135, but Hicks finished outside the top 64 and Ziegler withdrawn)
