I think this will happen once a Belgium player wins the World Snooker Championships :chin:

Though Continental Europe has an ever increasing fan-base, it's China (and Saudi Arabia too now) that put in the money. So that's where the tournaments go.

As Dan will probably come in to explain now I've pointed it out, that's how business works.

Tiered format for Home Nations and German Masters:

https://www.wst.tv/news/2024/april/05/t ... n-2024-25/

The 32-tier structure is something they should have done for a few years instead of moving to immediately to the flat-128 draws.

-

Also dates confirmed for the Tour Championship, 31/Mar - 06/Apr in Manchester:

https://www.wst.tv/news/2024/april/05/2 ... om-monday/

Calendar in the opening post has been updated.

I Cant believe they're going to do this for home nations and not Chinese Events, so i think more to come on this

So Saudi event will include all 144 players at the venue - presumably using same format as Worlds and UK

Due to the accelerating return of the protectionist tiered system this is the least enthusiastic I've felt about a snooker season since Barry Hearn took over.

Are they getting rid of it, or has it just not been announced yet?

Ergo, they’re getting rid of it. Shirley?

You never can really tell with the WST.

It wouldn't amaze me if they announced it four days before it was happening.

Perhaps they’ll excel themselves, and announce it four days after it has finished

Well, if there's any organisation in the World that could, it'd be them....

Any suggestion of where it might be held?

Well the link claims the Mattioli Arena (Leicester Arena), Leicester. Though also has the dates coinciding with the Masters in London. So I would not place too much credence in it.

The actual rumours are that WST are in negotiations for a venue in Hong Kong. Though the ITV broadcast contract could be a stumbling block.
