I like a drink as much as the next man, but this is the World Championships. It's not a jolly.

The televised game was grown off the "characters" on show in the 80's and alcohol consumption was a key part of loosening up those characters so the public could connect with them. It's a serious sport, but never forget that it's fundamentally *show business*, as Barry Hearn said, this is "Dallas with balls".

Yes, but it should be noted when a person breaks a record. They deserve some recognition for their achievement.

What the same Barry Hearn who shortened the UK Championship match length, and has best of sevens all over the place?

He's done a lot of good for snooker, but we don't have to agree with everything he says and does.
