Robbo has made it clear he would love to face Ronnie in a ranking final and I think Ronnie wants a go too, after getting thrashed by Robbo 6-0 at the Masters the other year. There are other contenders left of course, but let's be frank, a Robbo v Ronnie final is long overdue.
The Renaissance of Ronnie (is it mk IV or V yet?) is in part down to copying Judd and Robbo. It's strange but you could say that they've given his game a new lease of life. He's always adjusting this and that and has throughout his career. He plays nothing like the 6min maxi now. He has learnt to adjust his grip and his potting both short and long has improved, his power and accuracy are up. And that's the mark of a great champion, to constantly seek improvement.
In '72 Ray Reardon saw the young Alex lift the crown and locked himself in a room for six months to learn these 'new' shots. Six world titles and it was worth it. I'm surprised Ronnie has taken so long to learn from Robbo/Judd but he's older now than Ray was then and when you nearly 40, do you really need to learn new tricks or just be happy with what you have? Higgins, Williams, they trotting on with what they've played with. Ronnie, he has NEW WEAPONS NOW!
He's up there with the firecrackers on long potting, and he's a better and more natural break-builder, decision maker and he has better touch.
This is the day the anti-Ron brigade never wanted to see. If he stays fit he can go on and dominate like Joe Davis, deep into his 50s.
