thats not the point if snooker has a long term future and standards remain high we need youngsters slaughting veterans consistently.

i seriously worry about the state and standards of players coming through

I see the point you're trying to make and I think it's rubbish. No we don't need youngsters slaughtering veterans consistently. It seems it's more a case of that's what you want. Its not the veterans fault if they are beating younger players. It's up to the players coming through to see off the older players and if they can't they are clearly not good enough. A very high percentage of players who turned pro around the early nineties or earlier, have come and gone. Some are still on tour and that's probably because they still enjoy playing the game at a high level, and still want to practice most lose that as they get older. Just because a few can still dish it out the youngsters isn't a big deal at all. You trying to say snooker has no long term future if this is happening is absolute nonsense.

I think it's more the fact that the current crop of young players aren't good enough to beat the veteran players that are past their best that's concerning for snooker's future.

In my opinion most of the people here doesn't realize that this isn't football and the maturity in Snooker comes later than in other sports. player on 28-29 years are still young for snooker.

A bit like cycling the Youth standings are Under 25, In snooker it should be even for higher age.

Lines, Hallworth, Wakelin, are still kids, you could compare them to football players of 15-16-17 years. Are you asking to those youngsters from your team to go and perform with first team? It would be crazy.

It happens the same in snooker.

Re: 2015 Shanghai Masters Qualifiers

I don't know about anyone else, but football has nothing to do with it for me.

In snooker terms most of the best players over the last 30-35 years have been doing well since they were pretty young. Hendry, Higgins, ROS, Ding have been top players since their teens and almost everyone else has been early 20s at the latest. It's only recently that players have been playing their best stuff in their 30s and beyond.

Couldn't agree more with you Skull.

But if the young players can't beat on a consistent basis the older ones, then it's not the latter's fault. They definately need to be way more consistent, no point having 1 good tournament and then 4 or 5 really bad ones. But it's a learning process for them I suppose.

spot on

its not the fault of Jimmy or Bond but at the moment i can see top 16 players approaching 60 years of age in a few years if this continues.

Recently and in the 70s.

i want progress its nothing against old players christ im 45 this year my self but survival requires new blood because unfortunately people retire for all sort of reason and if quality doesent come through soon Judd Trump could be winning tournaments by de fault in a few years without much competition.
