https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDkHU3IZ6A8 1st session had Jack Karnehm proclaiming that Stephen's play was the best match snooker he's ever seen and that he was the greatest of all time . some of it was quite good but standards got much higher. the legendary blue with the rest is still one of the best shots ever

Is the standard that much better? If you allow for the fact that the cloths then were still very thick and the balls certainly a bit heavier. You can see how they are aiming middle pocket pots high to allow the ball to turn in with the nap. You don’t have to do that anymore.

comparing the scoring, it was worse considering that this was the best match snooker played at the time. but factoring in the clothes, it levels out to some extent. Hendry's shot with extension from pink to black in the 2nd frame would be amazing now, but then? Hard to believe he almost got it 100% right considering the cloth and going down table but managed to still make the black. Stephen missed absolute sitters in the first session though .
