Looks like Gareth Green was a no show this morning. Does anyone any information regarding him?

I don't know anything about him, but you'd have to think that a withdrawal at this stage must only be down to illness? Very unlucky, but a vital 4 points for Ian Preece.

Re: Q School 2016

Postby Tamctus

I'm not sure I've done my math right but I think Ian Preece has already sealed his place on the tour via the order of merit.

Re: Q School 2016

Postby kolompar

Not 100% but good chance.
Womersley is definitely out now, Roy <laugh>
Stefanow and Sargeant also lost, probably won't get tour card.
Last year the 4th on the OOM had 36, the year before 38, now even current number 1 Jamie Barrett only has 35 points, though that will probably be enough this year.

Re: Q School 2016

Postby PoolBoy

I think you're right, Tamctus - and it looks like Adam Duffy and Jamie Barrett will also be getting cards.
But, now certainly out are Manning, Parsons, Lilley and Hugill...
After the morning's play:

1. Jamie Barrett 35
2. Adam Duffy 34
3. Ian Preece 34
4. Craig Steadman 33
---------------------------------
5. Adam Stefanow 32
6. Brandon Sargeant 30
7. Daniel Womersley 29
8. Marc J. Davis 28

Re: Q School 2016

Postby Tamctus

Actually Ian Preece is not yet safe because he has lost one more frame than Adam Duffy during these tournaments. However, only players who can overtake them are Steadman and Hicks. Hicks can theoretically reach 36 points by losing his quarterfinal 3-4, which means that Preece and Duffy have to win just two frames in their next matches to be absolutely sure.

Jamie Barrett on the other hand must win just frame to be sure to stay ahead of Hicks.

Womersley is now definitely out. Stefanow and Sargeant still have a mathematical chance but it's a long shot that first of all requires two of Barrett, Preece, Duffy and Steadman to win their quarters.

This arithmetic is killing me!
What is certain, is that an English player will be qualifying directly from Section 1 (although, Snooker.org have Georgiou as a Cypriot) - I tend to think of him as English!
Three 'former' professionals plus Jamie Barrett (but, who will almost certainly be on Tour after this):

Steven Hallworth (age 20) (just off the Tour) v Craig Steadman (age 33) (just off the Tour)
Jamie Barrett (age ?) (amateur) v Michael Georgiou (age 28) (just off the Tour)

Re: Q School 2016

Postby PoolBoy

Section 2 is full of former or 'dropping off the Tour' Professionals:

John Astley (age 27) (former pro) v Ian Preece [Wales] (age 33) (former pro)
Peter Lines (age 46) (just off the Tour) v Adam Duffy (age 27) (former pro)

Re: Q School 2016

One more good win for Tony Drago, as he defeated Chen Zifan by 4-2.

It seems that the veteran has a good chance to go through from his section and regain his tour card.

Re: Q School 2016

And he knocked in breaks of 70, 114 and 61. Plays David John or Oliver Brown next. John was a good amateur, 2 times European champion and runner-up to Ding in the World U21, but then only had one season on the main tour. That included wins agains Selby and Murphy though.

Re: Q School 2016

Jamie Barrett, Ian Preece, Adam Duffy, Craig Steadman, Adam Stefanow, Brandon Sargeant, Andy Hicks, Steven Hallworth, Peter Lines and Zak Surety are the 10 players battling it out for the 4 order-of-merit places.

The other 8 still in the tournament will have to win their quarterfinal to earn a Main Tour card.

Re: Q School 2016

Section 3:

Barry Pinches (age 45) (just off the Tour) v Alex Borg [Malta] (age 46) (former pro)
Andy Hicks (age 42) (former pro) v Alexander Ursenbacher [Switzerland] (age 20) (former pro)

Re: Q School 2016

Postby PoolBoy

Section 4:

Zak Surety (age 24) (just off the Tour) v Darryn Walker (age 43) (former pro)
Tony Drago [Malta] (age 50) (just off the Tour) v David John [Wales] (age 31) (former pro)

Marc J. Davis definitely now gone;
Order of Merit, ahead of the semi-finals:

1. Jamie Barrett 35
2. Adam Duffy 34
3. Ian Preece 34
4. Craig Steadman 33
---------------------------------
5. Adam Stefanow 32
6. Brandon Sargeant 30
7. Daniel Womersley 29
8. Andy Hicks 29

The Chinese took the three of the four tour cards of Event 1, but there is no one left on the last 16 of Event 2, nor anyone has any chance to get through the order of merit.

The system is completely biased towards UK players.

Re: Q School 2016

But there are two players from Malta who still have their chance.

Drago is already 2-0 down, though.

Yes, but if this was in Beijing and not Burton...
How many 'good club level'Btits would 'risk' a non-refundable £600 entry fee - with NO prize money - a return-flight to China (but without specific dates) plus 2 weeks of hotel accommodation over there?
The players further down the rankings have jobs.
Q-School, if held in China, would probably see at least 9 of the 12 places going to Chinese players.

Re: Q School 2016

Postby Vallomas

Yeah, you are right. The whole Snooker World is around UK and I don't know if this can change.

Meanwhile, John leads Drago by 3-0 and Borg levelled his game against Pinches (1-1).

David John from Wales that is 3-0 up on Tony Drago spent one season on tour in 2002/2003 and during that season he Beat Andrew Higginson 5-3, Shaun Murphy 5-1 and Mark Selby 5-3 not to mention respected Commentator Neal Foulds 5-3

I Think Q School should have a rota system so its only held in a country minimum every 3 years lets take it to Germany, China, Australia etc and if a brit wants to take the risk then go for it

Hearn did announce plans for regional QSchools at last years WC.

Shows he is thinking about moving it around but whether it will get implemented is another matter.

At least it was the fastest match of the session <laugh>
Not that disappointed, he played well in this second event, could have got a tour card from the OOM if he didn't draw Greene in the first. I think he could even get his tour card back this november at the IBSF WC.

Re: Q School 2016

Postby Vallomas

Georgiou 3-1 Barrett
Duffy 0-2 P. Lines
Hallworth 2-1 Steadman

It seems that all the players who are high on the order of Merit, are in difficult position.

Re: Q School 2016

Postby Vallomas

D. Walker 3-4 Surety
Georgiou 4-1 Barrett
Duffy 0-4 P. Lines

Three players that just dropped off the tour, with a chance to get their cards back if they win one more match!

Re: Q School 2016

Postby kolompar

Barrett, Preece and Duffy all lose but they are safe and get a tour card each thanks to Ursenbacher who beats Hicks.
Steadman wins and tops the OOM, and he can now decide whether he lets Georgiou through or wins and gets Stefanow or possibly Lines a tour card.

No Decision to be made hes suppose to be a Pro so he sends Georgiou Packing.
