Re: IBSF World Snooker Champs 2015 9-21 November Egypt

Postby roy142857

South Africa has withdrawn as the host, Egypt has stepped in with an offer of their excellent facility at Sharm el Sheikh, but the dates will have to change a little.

One piece of good news, using Sharm el Sheikh will enable the inaugural Disabled Snooker World Championship to take place at the same time.

Re: IBSF World Snooker Champs 2015 9-21 November Egypt

Postby roy142857

I gather a different venue in Egypt is being used. No news on the disabled championship.

British Isles entries so far (entries close Tuesday I believe) - no Northern Ireland or Scottish entries listed yet. A reminder that the Mens winner gets a Pro Tour invite.

Mens
England - Ryan Causton, Adam Duffy, Saqib Nasir, Michael Rhodes
Ireland - Greg Casey, David Cassidy, Rodney Goggins, Brendan O'Donoghue
Isle of Man - John Kennish
Wales - Jamie Clarke, Ben Jones, Rhydian Richards, Alex Taubman

Womens
England - Maria Catalano, Reanne Evans

Masters
England - Graham Beardmore, Wayne Brown, Simon Dent, Chris Hart
Ireland - Anthony Bonnar, Colm Gilcreest, Alen Matic, Tom O'Driscoll
Wales - Darren Morgan, Wayne Morgan, John Perring, Ian Sergeant

Possibly the strongest womens field in any tournament? No Hannah Jones or Yana Shut yet, and Ng On Yee is the only Hong Kong entry, but alongside Evans and Catalano the tournament includes Belgiums Wendy Jans, Russias Anastasia Nechaeva and Daria Sirotina, Aussie Jessica Woods, Thailands Siripaporn Nuanthakhamjan and Waratthanun Sukritthanes, Chitra M and 3 other strong Indian players, Latvias Tatjana Vasiljeva, plus two players without much international experience but considered 'hot prospects' from unusual locations - Nahla Sunni of Bahrain and Makhlouf Soukayna of Morocco. A true Womens World Champion for once ...

Looks like quite a few players have dropped out, maybe because of security issues in the area maybe for other reasons.

Not sure re Michael Rhodes. The players who have dropped out are no longer listed, he's still listed but hasn't played a match in Group A yet, all other players in the Group have played at least 2 games. Saqib Nasir has 3 wins in 3 matches in Group D, may have lost concentration against Abdullah Alshammari of Saudi Arabia though - was 3-1 down. England's Ryan Causton didn't get going in his opener, losing 4-0 to Egypt's Mohamed Hemdan.

Scotland's Gary Thomson having a torrid time in Group E, losses to Basem Eltahhan of Egypt and Alijalil Ali of Iraq, still to play group favourite Brian Cini of Malta. Fellow Scot Michael Collumb 2 wins from 2 in Group F, including a win over Ireland's David Cassidy (who also has a loss to Egypt's Karim Elabd). Saudi Arabia's Ahmed Aseeri is the only unbeaten in Group H with 3 wins from 3, but still has to play Aussie james Mifsud and Antti Mannila of Finland.

I suspect the toughest group is Group U, leastways there are 5 pretty decent players, but with losses to Nansen Sin Man Wan of Hong Kong and Wales Alex Taubman, Finland's Antti Tolvanen is the likely loser. Taubman was shooting for a 147 in their match, but slipped up at 120. Taubman had a close loss in the Group, taking India's Varun Madan to a decider. Fellow Welshman Jamie Clarke has 2 wins from 2 in Group W.

Quite a few groups/players not played 3 matches yet, but for the record those who are on 3 wins from 3 - Shannon Dixon (Australia Group C), Raymon Fabrie (Netherlands Group C), Saqib Nasir (England Group D), Brian Cini (Malta Group E), Basem Eltahhan (Egypt Group E), Ahmed Aseeri (Saudi Arabia Group H), Yuán Sījùn (China Group Q), Khalid Kamali (UAE Group R)

A few selected results I've spotted in the Mens

Group B Nadir Khan Sultani (Afghanistan) 4 - 3 Ryan Thomerson (Australia)
Group H Antti Mannila (Finland) 4 - 3 James Mifsud (Australia)
Group Q Yuán Sījùn (China) 4 - 0 Greg Casey (Ireland)
Group R Ali Alobaidli (Qatar) 4 - 2 Alex Borg (Malta)
Group S Ahmed Galal (Egypt) 4 - 2 Ben Jones (Wales)
Group S Tetsuya Kuwata (Japan) 4 - 1 Adrian Ridley (Australia)
Group V Muhammad Asif (Pakistan) 4 - 3 Faisal Khan (India)
Group X Dominik Scherübl (Austria) 4 -2 Ahmed Saif (Qatar)
Group X Mohd Reza Hassan (Malaysia) 4 - 2 Dominik Scherübl (Austria)

Zhào Xīntóng of China (Group K) joins the players with 3 wins from 3 ... beat Lukas Kleckers of Germany 4-0!

Also now 3 from 3 -

Karam Fatima (Syria Group G), Mohsen Bukshaisha (Qatar Group L), Pankaj Advani (India Group L), Moh Keen Hoo (Malaysia Group M).

In Group N Muhammad Sajjad of Pakistan should be on track to join them, but he's struggling in his 3rd match, tied 2-2 with Egyptian player Tymour Hussien, whereas Issara Kachaiwong of Thailand is looking a near certainty, not really been troubled by Canada's Derek Martin.

Well a false assumption on my part that they'd go straight to a Last 64 - but actually 88 players qualified for the knockouts, 48 played today in the 'Last 88' round to get it down to 64 ... seems a little crazy given the numbers competing, but anyway ...

Some surprising results, the Pakistanis blamed the playing conditions. In the end, probably the best two players reached the final. Wendy Jans and Phisit Chandsri also successfully defended their titles.
Final currently 7-5 for Pankaj, live stream here if you click Video next to Show table 1 http://ibsf.info/turnieje/2015/ms/en/ms_2015_live.php
