WSF Championship 2024 has been quite a change of pace from the main tour. Many scrappy frames but some high scoring as well. So far not many players have shown they are tour ready but maybe later rounds will show that potential.
There has been some problems with scores due to power outages in the hotel today.
Last night Liam Davies scored the highest break of the tournament so far with 135.
Table 1 has been shown live on WPBSA's Youtube page. Stream has been good with more than one camera angle and with some matches having a commentator and some just ambient sound from the table.
Just a remainder what is at stakes:
Winner gets a two-year tour card and also some prize money is available. However every player had to pay a tournament entry fee of 100€ and all players need to stay at the hotel where the event is staged.
Prize Money for the 2024 WSF Championship (in Euros)
Winner €10,000* (8,000€ now, 2,000€ after the first qualifying match on the tour)
Runner-up €4,000
Semi-finalist €2,000
Quarter-finalist €800
Last 16 €400
Highest Break €600
Total €25,000

Group stages starting to come to a conclusion before the 86 person knockout stages begin.
Most of the bigger names through including Tony Knowles.
Ng On Yee is out.
Florian Nuessle scrapes through on frame difference after losing 50% of his games.
Peter Devlin is out.
In what has turned out to be the group if death. Oskar Charlesworth of Austria beats Frenchman Nicolas Mortreux, to send Mortreux home (he was group leader before the last set of games. Other place will go to Ayaan Iqbal or Craig Steadman who are playing now. Steadman 2-1 up and on a break. Wouldn't have expected him to struggle like this.

Is he definitely out? The table says "There needs to be a play-off for 1. place between Denys Khmelevskyi; Hayden Staniland; Liam Davies"

Rory McLeod v Duane Jones
Iulian Boiko v Barry Pinches
Hayden Staniland v Lei Peifan
Oliver Sykes v Alex Taubman
Sean Maddocks v Gao Yang
Kledio Kaci v Craig Steadman

17 year old Albanian Kledio Kaçi beating Craig Steadman 4-0 in the last 64 seems like a bit of a shock result.

Yep. Good for the hosting nation too. Think he has Steven Hallworth next who may be too strong for him

Last 32 match: Wang Yuchen 4 v 1 Antoni Kowalski
Scrappy match ended in a victory for the former pro. Standard was quite poor as neither managed to make break over 50. The final result does not quite reflect the match properly.
Theme of the match used to be that Kowalski potted some balls well and had chances to take frames but had poor cue ball control. As his cue ball control failed him his body language became negative with bewildered reactions and even lightly slammed his cue to the table in frustration in last frame. Wang then took his chances and cleared the table in the end.
Wang managed to keep his cool and punished the young Q Tour Event winner for his mistakes. Classic story of experience versus youth. I think Kowalski has potential in his game but needs to find more precision and even more emotional maturity but that should come with age.

Welcome to the forum, Hedgehog. Good to see another follower of the amateur game here. I see from your profile you are in Finland. Any idea why Hull, Niva or any other Finns are not represented in Albania?

Thank you for the welcome. If i remember correctly Hull has had some back issues which has limited his playing. Eurosport commentator Kauppinen mentioned that some time ago.
As for Niva I do not know. If I were to guess it would be down to finances and time.
Next event where there could be Finns in would be the European Snooker Championships in Sarajevo in March.
Domestically there are some good things happening as Joensuu Masters, upcoming Taom tournament in Helsinki and Ronnie's exhibition events in Tampere.
