Alan Ball returning from the grave to represent New Zealand at snooker. Just when you thought you'd seen it all.

In all seriousness though, it would be a big surprise if Devlin didn't play Liu Hongyu in the final, assuming they're on opposite sides of the draw.

Did Peter Devlin briefly move to Australia to get into this event or something?!

Also there is a player called "Bye". I will look forward to this person on tour.

Mostly local Australians or New Zealanders, and mostly not the best. There are some students who just happen to be there.

Hong Kong have sent a delegation, including former professional Wang Yuchen.

Why UK players in the Asia Pacific Championship?
Do this means that, as a Frenchie, I can compete in the African Championship? I may have more chance to get a card for the World Tour.

Somebody on twitter says entry was open to all, regardless of nationality. Whether that's true I don't know.

Yuchen Wang through to the last 16

He was a professional 2016-18 after winning the Asian U21 Championship.

He was taken to a decider in the QF

Bizarrely, Liu Hongyu gets an 81, and Chang Yu Kiu gets a 79 at exactly the same time, and both matches stop for their mid-session interval. Liu leads 4-0, and the other match is tied at 2-2.

Congratulations to Hong Yu Liu who beats Wang Yuchen 6-1 in the final.

China have another professional. Does anyone know much about him?

Yes, he's an extremely talented 17-year old from Guangdong. He has come close to qualification before: at the CBSA 'nomination' events in 2022 and 2023, Q School 2022, and WSF tournaments.

He's a mad potter and breakbuilder, who will literally go for anything and hardly ever play a safety shot. He makes a lot of catastrophic mistakes, but in the meantime gets spectacular century breaks. He reminds me a lot of a young Luca Brecel, so it's quite timely.

He's going to have to learn a lot on tour, but has huge potential if he can take advice. I met him at Q School last year, and he is quite a highly-strung volatile character as well.
