So we will have one 'final' where both players are over 50, and another where both players are over 40. At least we'll have Sunny Akani or Bai Langning to get the average age down a bit.

Quite a lot of them taking an age. The matches all started at 7pm, and 4 of them were still going at 11pm, two of them only in their 5th frame - that's over 45 mins a frame.
Sunny Akani has won, but it was really tough going...
Florian was the better player too. Hope he qualifies in Q2 or Q3 but its tough to pick yourself up and have another crack.

Yes looking good for Sunny Akani. Bai Langning hasn't settled and might not.
It's really the only watchable match, especially for me: two very technical left-handers. It's a pity they can't both qualify today.

Yes I'm afraid he only has himself to blame really. Bai Langning didn't play well at all, and needed many chances to win the frames that he did. Sunny just got slower and slower.... His last 3 matches his AST was 33s. Obviously he was under enormous pressure, but it's vital to avoid getting dragged down in the way he did.

I just listened to three interviews. Fergal is going to enter less tournaments and will just enjoy the two years - so seems like he will retire in 2 years (unless he plays well in the ones he enters). He didn't enjoy chasing ranking points at places like Gibraltar.
Andy Lee - looks like this is also his last crack. His season was curtailed after the Gibraltar Open in 2019 so is sort of justice really he can complete his professional status. Sounds like he won't get funding anymore as of April 2023 so will be out of work if he loses professional status in 2024.
Rod - plodding along for another 2 years and is just going to enjoy them.
So three people that are semi retired in a way. I can see why some people are annoyed that no youngsters can come through but it does sound as if 2 of these 3 will be calling it a day in 2 years anyway (unless the get into the top 64).
