Fine to have 44 British players entered, but disappointing that there are only 25 players from the rest of the world. In particular the total absence of players from China suggests that several of the world's best juniors are not competing in this event.

Yes, still highly restricted international travel for China. Looks like a similar situation in the big boys event, only Si Jiahui and Bai Langning from China, who are both based in the UK I believe.

Nice one :) Were you the ref in the Womans world championship final a few days ago? or it may have been someone that looked a bit like you lol.

Wasn't me no.

If I'm on Table 1 I'll let you all know.

Into the knockout rounds. Stand-out performer from the groups is possibly Liam Davies, who has top break of 134 and hasn't dropped a frame yet. Likely quarter final with lil' Ben Mertens could be a good one. Only one Iqbal remains.

Last 32:

Mason Wilson/Michael Roberts v Samuel Lee Stevens
Roman Blakyta v Jake Crofts
Stan Moody v Oliver Briffett-Payne
Robbie McGuigan v Antoni Kowalski

Westley Cooper v Mitchell Berry
Aidan Murphy v Yorrit Hoes
Oliver Sykes v Leone Crowley
Kaylan Patel/Filips Kalnins v Paul Deaville

Artem Surzhykov v Dainton Barrass/Christian Richter
Matvei Lagodzinschii v Liam Graham
Liam Pullen v Bulcsú Révész
Steven Wardropper v Anton Kazakov

Ben Mertens v Kledio Kaçi
Amaan Iqbal v Velian Dimitrov
Thijs Pauwels v Jack Borwick
Riley Powell/Sam McKay v Liam Davies

Ben Mertens knocked out by Kledio Kaçi in a surprise result.

Stan Moody v Antoni Kowalski L16 match looks very interesting.

yes. bit of a shock for the belgian.

kowalksi beat young master moody 3-0. after a close first frame he ran away with it. got a 139 break in the final frame - a new high break for the competition. looks like some random portuguese was reffing that one.

liam graham also through to the quarters with 3-0 win.

It would be nice if Liam Davies had a good result here as he was very unlucky in the shootout, having to just sit and watch his opponent get a century in the first round after the first few shots. Didn't really get a chance to show off his skillz and all that.

Down to the last 8 to be played this afternoon:

Jake Crofts (16) v Antoni Kowalski (18)
Yorrit Hoes (17) v Oliver Sykes (16)

Liam Graham (16) v Anton Kazakov (17)
Kledio Kaçi (15) v Liam Davies (15)

Kowaslki made the highest break of the tournament so far, 139, and I was the ref! Very happy, he played superb.

Re: 2022 WSF Junior Championships

kowalski had fought back from 3-0 down to 3-3. but jake crofts pinches the decider on the pink.

liam davies came through his match 4-0.

Yorrit Hoes and Anton Kazakov come thorough their deciders.

So the semis will be:
Jake Crofts vs Yorrit Hoes
Anton Kazakov vs Liam Davies

An impressively large entry list for the big event though and quite a good few nations represented despite the China travel situation.

Good mix of up and comers and recent pros.. along with a long list of olayers I've never heard of.

Itaro Santos has made it too

anton kazakov 3-2 up on liam davies, and barring snookers will be in in the final.

he will face jake crofts who won his match 4-2 this morning.

Kazakov is a good battler, but with suspect technique. He's been to several semi-finals of junior events, so is quite experienced at these stages.

I don't know much about Jake Crofts - he's a local boy who practices at Victoria's Academy and has played practice matches against Zhao Xintong and Yan Bingtao. However, it doesn't look like he's passed 50 in this tournament, which makes it quite remarkable that he could turn pro tonight.

Re: 2022 WSF Junior Championships

Anton's style and technique reminds me of lots of players, from Alan Mcmanus to Mark Selby, his opponent on the other had, Jake, has a style and technique that I've never seen before and reminds me of no-one, but is surprisingly watchable.

Not been the greastest of Finals, but what matters is the win, and Kasakov looks like to be heading right direction.

Watching here live, you can feel the tension. Lot at stake for these 2 young lads.

Kazakov wins. It'll be interesting to see how he does in the main event. He's in the same group as Ross Muir which will be a good tester.

It's a really great achievement by the 17-year old from Ukraine. It's amazing that he can do this given the situation around his home country at the moment.

If he decides to play in the WSF Main event, he might not be at his best. His head is probably swimming right now. How can he concentrate when his ambition is already achieved? He's probably already thinking of playing the top guys on the professional tour next season.

Of course, he's going to find it really tough. I expect him to be smashed up on the main tour, like Iulian Boiko. But he must stay positive. I think a good role model would be Arnie Ursenbacher, who said that his first spell on tour was about 'avoiding the whitewash'. It takes years to get established in the big league. Kazakov has shown good battling qualities - he can get through it if he keeps his calm.
