2017 IBSF World Under 21s, Beijing

Postby roy142857

World Under 21 Champion should (as in previous years) be offered a Pro Tour card. For convenience posting results from other competitions at the same venue here too.

Just noting in the 'curtain raising' World Under 18 events, Muhammad Naseem Akhtar of Pakistan won the Boys tournament, beating Lei Peifan of China 5-3 in the final, coming back from 1-3 down. Top break was a 117 by Amir Nardeia of israel. The Girls final was an all-Thai affair as Nutcharat Wongharuthai defeated Siripaporn Nuanthakhamjan 3-1. Nutcharat had the top break with a 67 (plus two other half century breaks).

English players in the Mens World Under 21 are Peter Devlin, Jed Mann, Josh Thomond and Matthew Glasby; Irish players Shaun Bates, Darragh Cusack, Noel Landders, Aaron Holland and Ronan Whyte; only Northern Ireland player is Fergal Quinn; Welsh players are Jackson Page, Tyler Rees, Dylan Emery and Ben Fortey. No Scottish players.

Chinese players Chang Bingyu, Pang Junxu, Geng Mingqi, Luo Honghao, Zhang Jiankang and Wu Shengguang are probably all a 'threat' for this, especially on 'home' territory.

Other players include Cheung Ka-Wai of Hong Kong, a previous Under 18 Champ and his compatriots Tam Yun Fung and Man Ming Wa, Brian Cini of Malta, Asutosh Padhy and Kreishh Gurbaxani (India), Florian Nüssle (Austria), Patrik Tiihonen (Finland) and Simon Lichtenberg (Germany)

No British or Irish players in the Women's Championship.

Yes, Vafaei made one in 2014.
U18 champion Akhtar is out, lost his second match 4-3 to Tyler Rees, Rees also beat Geng Mingqi to top the group. Amir Nardeia also goes out, despite making 7 50+ breaks including the highest 133. The Thai who got the second place on frame difference didn't make a single 50.
On the other hand Patrik Tiihonen won only one match in the U18 while Jed Mann didn't win any, both finished their groups unbeaten in the U21.
