Yes he can hit it full ball but only so that the blue goes straight on and that means Selby and murphy was right.

Rule changed either last season or this season so that you only have to hit it full ball now.

No theu weren't right, the both sides situation only happens when a free ball occurs, in this case it does not matter if Murphy can hit either side of the blue as long as he can hit full ball contact on it, and he clearly could as checked by the ref, so the ref had to indeed warn him he had a shot at an easier blue, but of course he wasn't going for it for safety purposes.

The ref as other posters have noted was 100% right, and had Murphy lost the frame from that then so be it. The ref, despite being a bit inexperienced, showed great ref skills there. :hatoff:

well that's the problem then the players was playing to the rule they being brought up on for 20 years and the ref plays to a 1 year rule.

ref was right but rule changers :bird:

Ronnie :-(

Well... I could see this coming somehow... anyway...

Of course it's not a tin pot event, far from it, in fact the Best PTC in my opinion, along with the Belgium one.

Ronnie still had some match practice, managed to beat Hawkins along the way so not all bad.

WTF.... frame scores in frame 5 are:

F4 F4 F4 45 in Liang's favour...

Then Selby benefited from a F4 point penalty and thats it... he won the frame 4-57 :dizzy:

Did Lians concede when in front or something? Was he feeling ill? Very strange...

Would be something if he did manage to get into the Top 16...

The rule is (or at least definitely was) full ball, not both sides, unless they've changed it very recently. But the argument was about full ball, and you could quite clearly see you could hit full ball.

That hasn't been changed, always been full ball, the only instance it's both sides is when a foul is committed and the player doesnt ask (or can't ask) for the ball to be replaced because he has a free ball situation when he can't hit both extreme edges of the ball on.

This situation is different because Selby simply asked to be replaced, and Murphy could see the blue full on.

Last time he played in the Masters was 2006 some achievement if he got back there 9 years later.
