The three misses rule and your out is stupid, the much better option is to allow the other (non offending) player to place the cue ball anywhere on the table.

No it isn't stupid, what is indeed stupid is the shot Robbo attempted after failing to hit it twice.
I agree with CS, no way would he have done that against a Ronnie or Selby.
Judd had an exact similar situation yesterday with pink ball, but hit it full on, end of story. If Robbo ended up losing the frame because of hitting the balls full on, then so be it, at least Wilson would have had to pot them and win the frame from it.
But no Robbo choose to hand him the frame on a plate, and I'm glad his somewhat arrogant approach backfired on him when he lost the next frame to lose the match.

Wow what is going on in this tournament! It's all happening here.
The entire top 8 has failed to make the quarter finals! I don't think I have ever seen that happen before.
