Depends how you qualify a legend. I mean, he has won the World Championship and the UK Championship and has a career total of nine ranking events. Basing it on career achievement, you could argue he's a legend. A legend isn't necessarily somebody who has an exciting style that everybody likes.

You're right but I think, usually if you ask most people, they wouldn't say that Ebdon can be called a legend. In my eyes, a legend needs to win at least two WC's and around another 10 ranking titles at least and UK+Masters titles are a must as well. Ebdon, in my eyes, is in a similar situation as Parrott who also won 9 rankers in total, the World and UK once but not the Masters. And overall that's not enough in my eyes to be called a legend.

From the current players, in my eyes Robertson has the best chance to enter the legend state but he must win another world. Ding obviously has a chance as well, but I really doubt that he can win two World titles. He of course has the ability, but he doesn't show it at the WC.

Ebdon has more right to be called a legend than Les Dodd which Jason Francis (snooker legends) refereed to him as lol

He's a legend because of what he's done with the little talent and poor technique he has? He's like a club player to me and the best of them. Grit and determination are obvious and these aspects are things even the most talented players have had to adopt, even the Genius. He could have been so much more if he'd not listened to himself, listened to coaches, adopted a proper stance, learnt to cue properly (3 feathers not 30!), kept his rhythm and break-builded the way we know he can, or the way he used to do (147 club). So he's a half legend for me!

But no-one who has been banned for six months and fined £75,000 for bringing the sport into serious disrepute can be described as a legend for me. People have a go at Ronnie for his comments or walking out of a match but the same people will gloss over a serious disrepute finding for a favoured player. Double standards from hypocrites.

My legends list:

Joe Davis (first pro to make a living out the game, with a ridiculous number of titles)
Steve Davis (first 147 on tv and loads of rankers)
Stephen Hendry (the most rankers)
Ray Reardon (6 WCs)
Ronnie O'Sullivan - first and only (so far) Genius of snooker.

Thats a very good question!.

How exactly does one define a LEGEND.

A legend i think has to have been around for many,many years and certainly has to have a lot of titles on there CV,if they can also chuck in a few records that they claim,then thats obviously in there favour.

I,d say that Steve Davis,Hendry,Ronnie,Higgins are definte LEGENDS in the snooker world,i,d even put Jimmy White up there,(even though he never won the worlds),due to what he,s done for the game,his longetivity and last but not least,.....

Ranking event finals: 24 (10 titles, 14 runner-ups)

Doin what he,s done,still is doing and reaching 24 finals as well as winning 10 of them is enough for me to label Jimmy as a legend.

As you say,...From the current players,Robbo could be the next to be regarded as a legend,....

Robbo= Ranking finals: 16 (10 titles, 6 runner-ups)

,....but still has a bit o work to do.

Ding also could at sometime be labeled a LEGEND if he keeps the silverware coming and continues to play for many years to come,......

Ding= Ranking event finals: 14 (11 titles, 3 runner-ups).

I,d personally rate Ebdon as one of the greats but not a LEGEND,although one could argue he is.

Ebdon= Ranking event finals: 17 (9 titles, 8 runner-ups)

And maybe Selby and Trump might one day be in the LEGEND category.

Since when did this become a discussion whether Ebdon is a legend or not? rofl

Anyway, I'll watch Stevens v Higgins, I actually fancy Matthew to upset Higgins here, but John slowly seems to be getting some good form back, I'll still back Stevens all the way though.

Well Dotty called the sports hall the toilet so :wave:

Anyway, I'm sure that wasn't the only thing you picked out from Ronnie's complaints, and most of them were absolutely right.

Nice to see that Ronnie misses him. :D
