That's a strange comment. It's the players who have brought this on themselves, chief offender is ronnie o sullivan. The same in all walks of life, things are good then some bawbag bucks it up for everyone.

To be fair to Ronnie he hasn't really pulled out mid-tournament since around 2012. Some players were taking the snake hiss though with their pathetic excuses last season.

Yes I agree, in recent times if Ronnie dosnt want to go to an event he simply doesnt enter it, therefore he hasn't pulled out. But like you say, many last season had pretty poor excuses for not attending an event they at first entered.

Exceptions do need to be made though, like a last minute illness of some sort (Robbo last season at the China Open a prime example, although he didnt pull out an even reached the Final), a death of a family member, that sort of thing.

Yea but to be fair the sort of illness Robbo had is not an excuse to pull out. but death in the family, or really serious illness like what Ali Carter has should be exempt.

Christ Alex Higgins played with a broken leg Hopping round the table and Actually won a match.

Higgins didn't win that match though, he actually was hammered 5 nil by Steve Davis in the 1989 British Open.

Nevertheless, would be some story if a player nowadays played with a broken leg.

EDIT: Sory I misread what you said, Higgins actually did win 1 match in that tournament, last 64 match against Australian Robby Foldvari, but in the Last 32 was hammered by his old "friend" Davis.

Chinese wildcard Zhao Xintong thrashes Chris Melling 5-1. Has Jack Lisowski next.

Didn't he have visa problems and so couldn't go to Q-School? Hope he gets on tour somehow soon. Seems like a real talent.

Some draw Gould's getting. Brown'll be his third amateur opponent in a row.

Although he might not have that easy considering how Brown has only dropped one frame against his first two opponents...

pro or not that will be a massive help with funding the season for him.

i believe there should be a tour qualifying for top up players that does well in main tournaments after all that what its all about.

Yes, that's the point. He may be an amateur, but he's still had to win games to get to this stage in the tournament.

He played u-21 world championship in same days where he lost the semifinal against Josh boileau
he previously lost final of world amateur championship against Zhou yuelong

i just think if Amateur players had something to gain from being a top up player then this notion of top up players having nothing to lose so they can relax more as appose to tour players that has everything to lose would be put to bed.

Maguire has stepped up the heat conceding just 6 points to turn a 3-1 deficit in to a 4-3 lead with a break of 118 as a highlight and hes off again on a break of 48
