this happened in a game i played in, we are the colours on brown.
my opponent fouls on brown leaves a free ball.
i nominate pink i miscue and miss pink and hit brown.
not sure if this is a foul or not because the pink is a brown.
and i hit brown maybe someone could tell me please

Foul stroke. When a free ball is nominated, it MUST be the first ball struck. Official Rules, Section 3., Rule 12. Snookered After a Foul:
"After a foul, if the cue-ball is snookered (see Section 2, Rule 17), the referee
shall state FREE BALL.
...
(b) It is a foul if the cue-ball should:
(i) fail to hit the nominated ball first..."
Four points away and the usual options in this circumstance.
