Hendry thought Standard of play this afternoon was poor and Davis said it was Good.

Hendry isnt happy unless there's big breaks every frame that illustrates why hes retired while Steve Happy enough scratching around playing poor.

hendo could not compete if he was not break-building well, Davis could compete whether he was in good break-building nick or not, thats the difference, Davis loved the game enough to battle and scrap with safety and tactics <ok>

yes there's easier balls to hit but the object of the game isnt to leave a oponent with a frame winning chance.

But the object of the game is to hit the balls

but not any ball

the right ball to keep the table safe

No the rule is that they should give priority to hitting a ball on, any ball on. If they elect not to do that, then they should be prepared to give their opponents penalty points in multiple attempts which could indeed be less damaging than handing them prime position to win the frame.

that shows how wrong the rule is

it should be playing the right shot and getting close enough to a ball on.

im not saying that in that instance it wase't a miss because i think shaun is wrong i disagreed with Parrott saying hit any ball surely that makes the game a game of Luck.

The problem is how do you define "right shot" and "close enough"? How are referees supposed to assess that, and do it in a consistent way?
Already what (top) players see as the "right shot" differ depending on the individual and "close enough" obviously depends on the person's ability.

so on what authority do you have to slaughter players on forums then ???

and BTW hendry played rubbish he pinpointed it and got out and said he should have retired years ago

how is that hypocritical.

Stephen Hendry threshold of Standard of play is far Higher than Davis.

Hendry plays on 6 x 3's these days

Davis still plays on 12x6's

therefore Davis is 4 times better than Hendry

I don't think he's hypocrite, he's been trashing his own standard for the best part of the last five years if not more.
And at least he DID play the game to the highest standard in his prime contrary to other commentators who were never even close to today's standard, can't see the shots to play but still criticize the players. Not naming the names. ;-)

Is he really playing though? I don't think he enters tournaments.

I thought he was a non playing ambassador?

yea im not a fan of black and white reffing its come to the point all they are is ball boys

refs should make decisions based on their opinions.

when that red pink thing in the selby v williams shanghai final last year......players was shocked that a ref had a decition to make because it dont happen in snooker.

It's a surprise that Eurosport never snapped up Everton.

I saw the first 8 frames round my parent's house. Ali Carter holds a slender advantage, but it's anybody's game.

The first four frames didn't take long, and I thought we were in for a quicky. The next four went a bit scrappy.

Murphy looked a bit of a mug arguing with the referee. But then that guy specialises in looking like a mug.

All to play for this evening.

I'll be missing the first session of tomorrow's (well today's now) semi, but the Selby is still in it and he has Mavis who only beaten him once, in the CL. Doubt he'll be making a max in the decider. WN1 spot looking good.

Forget the WN1 spot, the UK title looks good. He's the best player left in it and as long as he remains focussed he should walk it from here really. Of course you don't know what can happen but surely the win last night will give his confidence a massive boost. Fingers crossed he can start the remaining matches as well as he's been finishing matches.

I don't actually care about the WN1 spot, just taking things one match at a time and the WN1 spot is closer than the UK title now.

Head to heads say different. Think Carter has beaten Selby in only one important match, 2010 Shanghai semi, while Smurph is about even.
