Scottish Main Tour 2011/12

Postby roy142857

Just for the sake of completeness (in case anyone was wondering ... what about Scotland?), rankings for the Scottish Main Tour after 2 events below. Both were won by James McBain, beating Fraser Patrick 5-1 at the Creamery Snooker Club, Falkirk in September and beating Patrick again, this time 5-2, in October at Craigpark Masters in Glasgow.

There are five main events on the tour plus the Scottish Snooker Scottish Championship. Points are awarded 100 for the win, 70 for runner-up, 55 for semi-finalists, 40 for quarter finalists, 30 for last 16, 20 for last 32. Small amounts of points are also awarded to losers in the various qualifying groups. And yes, the tour number 1 can be expected to be nominated for a place on the Pro tour.

Standings (sort-of top 10 - but 6 tied for tenth place!):

James McBain 200
Fraser Patrick 140
Stuart Johnstone 95
Scott Donaldson 85
Craig MacGillivray 85
Bobby Cruickshanks 80
Mark Owens 80
Michael Leslie 70
Ross Valance 70
Dylan Craig, Eden Sharav, Scott Dunbar, Michael Collumb, Robert Carlisle and Rhys Clark all on 60 points.

Scottish Snooker's rival, the Scottish Billiards & Snooker Association, held their version of the Scottish Championship in December, with Thomas McSorley defeating Stevie Baillie 7-3

Quick correction on the points - I think it's 20 points for reaching the last 32, but the seeded players only get 15 points at this stage if they lose.

Finished 45th last year having done 3 of 6 events, don't think he's been in any of this years ...

hes high hopes of turning pro but think hes become disillusioned by a lack of funding and struggling to make ends meet. He entered a few PTCs earlier this season and was meant to be in PTC11 but pulled out for some reason.

As for the Scottish tour, prob the trek down from Aberdeen to Glasgow puts him off as he cant drive and the trains arent cheap.

I'll catch him in the New Year and see whether hes entering Q School.

Hi Guys,

Scotland's place was removed when the previous NGB, Scottish Snooker Ltd, failed to comply with proper governance procedures, but Caledonian Snooker Ltd resolved the position, and Scott Mackenzie and James McBain have received the nominations for the last two seasons.

However things are likely to change. From discussions that I have had, it is possible that the Home Countries will lose the automatic main tour places, with nominated players going into a place-off for one UK main tour place.

Marc Davis hasn't played on our main tour this season, but he really should.

Hopefully, participation in NGB events will be the key to all future participation in PTC events as well.
