ive lost count on how many times Ronnie is Absent its a Major Surprise these days if he goes further than Heathrow or Gatwick Airport Departure Lounge.

so no Ronnie not there is not a Major Absentee.

He's a major player, who is absent. <ok>

The fact is, Ronnie has always hated travelling. The only difference is there are more tournaments abroad for him to not attend then there was, so you notice him pulling out more often. It was predictable five years ago, it's just more obvious now.

im curious as to why Jimmy didnt play this

hes on the brink of the top 48 and with so many big names missing here plus the fact hes a top 64 PTC seed he could have had a good run

i would tweet him and ask but i think my names mud now as far as Jimmys concerned <doh> :emb:

Stevens needs 1 win and 360 points in order to get his spot in top-16...He can only lose it, if Davis wins PTC but i doubt it...

The battle will be between Gould-Lee-Davis...

I kind of see half his point though. (You can never fully agree with Wild, because half the time his rants are nonsensical even to himself.)

I'd liked to have seen more top players go to Brazil to help promote the game. It's a hard thing to expect players to drop everything and play anywhere in the world just to promote the game, but as Murphy said the other day, they are professional snooker players. At the end of their careers, the memories they have of their heydey won't be made sat at home. There were other things wrong with that tournament of course, but you'd think promotion of the sport that looked in the complete doldrums a couple of seasons ago would be important.

The PTCs won't suffer, or fail to expand into new markets just because Selby isn't there, and he isn't the only player to miss the odd event. At the end of the day, he'll lose prize money and ranking points, but that's his decision to sacrifice them, and it affects nobody but him. If this was a full on ranker, or an event spreading to a new market, or whatever you could understand. A PTC event where fans can wonder in and get 12-odd hours of snooker a day is slightly different.

I don't condone the Ronnie-style, can't be bothered to play anywhere attitude or anything. But, I would like to have seen more big names in Brazil, as they were spreading the gospel.
