So then, the dust has settled and the 66 fixtures over best of 11 frames have been played to find the 16 players who will join the top sixteen in York to fight it down to find the 2011 champion.
This year, we have had a surprising number of the seeded players (ie those 17-32nd) failing to reach the venue. Eight players who were seeded to reach the last 32 have failed to do so. This is contradiction with recent tournaments since the UK Finals were reduced to 32 players where the success of the 17th-32nd seeds has been as follows:
13 in 2007 - Played over best of 17 frames
10 in 2008 - Played over best of 17 frames
11 in 2009 - Played over best of 17 frames
11 in 2010 - Played over best of 17 frames
8 in 2011 - Played over best of 11 frames
Does anyone believe that the best of 11 format is responsoble for the higher number of upsets?

Absolutely YES, The players have gotten used to the Majors being over the longer setup. There will be those that cant/refuse to adjust and they will be the ones that lost. The downgrading of the UK, and make no mistake, downgraded is what is has been is a major blow to the integrity of the Sport, a Sport in which the ruling body who are kow towing to the BBC and Sky think shorter equals better. There is a place for best of sevens, the PTC'S, excellent as most have been prove that but the main core of the Sport should be for PROPER ranking events a minimum of best of nine for the normal rankers and a MINIMUM starter of best of 17 for the UK. The World Championship format should NEVER be touched.

the reduction to best of 11 cant be used as an excuse for the 17-32 seeds dropping like flies in qualifying
the World Open best of 5s and PTC best of 7s results have proved that the better players still come out on top more often that not
so if these 17-32 players (who on paper should be the best out of those in qualifying) cant produce the goods in a bo11 then thats their fault, not the formats fault.

I can't see it having a massive impact. It's not like the top players aren't used to matches of this length. I'd prefer longer matches in the UK Championship, but if a player is saying that a best of 11 took them by surprise, they are just talking rubbish.

Peter Lines best ever Tournament Result was in the UK 2 years ago reached the Quarters over 17 frames so the upsets is not in the Length of match really.
proberbly same results would have happened and that really is beside the point of why i prefere session snooker its exciting players start a second session 6-2 or 5-3 behind or a player 5-1 down and manages to win the last 2 frames of the session to keep in touch its a real buzz you just dont get with one session matches.

Wild, if you use google chrome instead of others, it will underline words that you have mispelt, just thought youd be interested
And onto topic. No I dont think so, because there has been a steady decrease since 2007 anyway.

I think this year's UK should be named 'The devalued UK Championships'.

Says the man who has threatened to castrate players if they slightly disagree with a point he's made.
