Dismissing Trump after tonight is almost as brain dead as saying Sullivan would never compete with Trump again.

Dismissing him is not the same as asking if he is still a nemesis for O'Sullivan. Those are two completely different things.

I wouldn't dream of dismissing Trump. I still give him the slight edge over Ronnie in their future meetings.

Fair point.

Sullivan has never really had a nemesis. All his supposed nemises have an inferior head-to-head against him.

On a humurous note...

If by nemesis you mean players he has an inferior h2h, then a certain Elliot Slessor comes to mind lol.

On a more serious one... John Parrot was a real nemesis for him. Think he leads 8-4 in h2h, and Ronnie even described in his book he never liked playing him.

Oh dear. This thread seems to have taken a nasty turn, sadly. I'm in two minds about asking one of the mods to close it up and chuck it in the Junkyard, never to be seen again.

Only man to beat Ronnie with a session to spare.

Ronnie was about 12 years old at the time.

I think it's Selby or Higgins. Higgins due to the duration of their careers but Selby has the best wins against him.

Selby beat him in a World final, a UK final and Masters final. Nobody else has done that and it's a brilliant achievement for Selby.

You actually make a very good point.

Higgins has the longest rivarly, but Selby has beaten him in their most important and decisive matches.

Higgins has beaten him in the others, but some of them werent finals.

Parrott had the best record against O'Sullivan. So it would be him.

Mark King also has a decent record against O'Sullivan.

Interesting to look at the players who have a positive record against Ronnie.. Admittedly a small sample size of matches played for some of them.

Slessor leads the way after 2 wins out of 2.

But then you have Parrott with 4 wins out of 6. Which might make him a mini nemesis.

Otherwise, the others are: Snaddon, Pengfei, P Lines and Holt.

Parrott was 8-4 up on O'Sullivan.

Mark King is also ahead. 5-4 in fact.

It's irrelevant whether someone has a better record against him or not, that's not what being a nemesis is about.
A nemesis is a long-standing rival, an arch-enemy. Ronnie has had rivalries with quite a few ATG's, like Hendry, Higgins, Selbo, or even Trump.
But Higgo is the one that has been his biggest rival, especially given the fact that they are both the same age. It's the same thing with Federer and Nadal. It's true that someone like Djokovic has beaten Federer in many big finals/matches in recent years, but he's also way younger, so it really isn't that relevant.

Parrott might have a great record against ROS, but it must also be mentioned which version of ROS he beat: a young kid, who was by no means the complete package when they squared off.
Higgo is the only one that has beaten prime ROS. In a way, so has Selbo, but Selbo beat him by grinding him down and annoying him, Higgo beat him just through matchplay.
So Higgo is the one.

Do you know what "Nemesis" means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by an 'orrible c**t... Elliot Slessor.

Of the players that have a positive h2h against him, Parrot is the one with most wins, with 8-4.

Of the players that have a negative one, the answer is of course John Higgins.

Or then it also might be the the "ever lasting and boring" tournament called the World Championships of snooker.

Means Mark Selby ???
