So why did he use to have a patch on his chin?

There was a time in my career when I played while wearing a sticking plaster on my chin. Many people thought I had worked out a routine whereby when a certain part of the cue reached the plaster it was the signal for me to start my release. I am happy to reveal here and now that that theory is absolute rubbish.

My parents had bought me a cue from Reardon's snooker club and I had used it for many years. That one had been a smooth ash cue but a replacement cue had some indentations and, if I didn't shave, the cue irritated my skin and sometimes caused it to bleed. So the purpose of the plaster was to prevent that from happening. I know it wasn't the coolest look but I had to do something.
