It's a term of expression. Every interview I've seen, top or lower ranked players, say these are the 3 main events they dream to win as a professional snooker player.

Fair enough but last week's UK was a joke.It had no prestige whatsoever and was a TC by name only.ROS run to the final was weaker than a Home nations. Absolutely not his fault but prestige - no.

At least he had to beat a very good player in the Final, who's in the form of his life and has a good h2h v him.

Definitely Andre. It was a good test in the final and passed with aplomb by ROS. However, the run to the final was pathetic and certainly not worthy of UK tournaments past.
He could do no more and the win was deserved.
Prestige - no.

By your logic the Welsh open with its palmares including Hendry, Doherty, O'Sillivan, Hunter, J Higgins, Williams, Davis, Selby etc is bigger than the International championship or China Open today. Self evidently this is absurd. The UK is no longer that special.
Difference is the Welsh Open was never regarded as a major and it's prize money is well below the two Chinese events. I'd would consider it more prestigious then similar sized events though. The UK Championship not only has history but it's prize money is similar to the International Championship and not a huge distance behind the China Open. Even the formats are similar with mostly best of 11's, the semi finals being the only rounds with shorter matches.
The UK Championship isn't as important as in the 80's/90's. It would take Chinese players really breaking through and winning major titles regularly to make China Open & Shanghai part of a new Triple Crown.

Just because his draw was easy apart from the final doesn't mean the UK's prestige goes away all of a sudden. You do know Ronnie has won it 4x in the longer formats with top players before and 3x in the short formats with top players too right? It's not like Ronnie has to prove anything. 2/3 titles came from beating the top 16 players all the way through this year (Shanghai Masters and CoC), then Allen in the UK final who's had his number in the TC events up until now. That's just a testament to how good he is that he can do it in any format.

Also even if the UK stayed with the longer format, Ronnie would've still won the same amount of titles and there's an even more chance of his victories being a landslide given how Ronnie can run away with it. Look at Ronnie vs Hawkins at the Shanghai Masters final. If that match was best of 11 he would've lost 6-4 but the longer format allowed him to come back and win. It works both ways. But really the top players shouldn't need best of 17s to take out R1, R2 etc players. Best of 11 is plenty of time to get wins.

When Ronnie next loses a match in a major, does the person who beats him become the new GOAT?

That new eight-man tournament in Llandudno will be superior to the Masters and UK. Just like the International, China Open and Shanghai Masters are.

Exactly. And O'Sullivan will likely win it.

A lot of players might pick UK, but there'll be quite a few picking Chinese events, especially actual Chinese.
