Will Ronnie O'Sullivan win 8 World Titles to prove himself the greatest player in the modern era?
He is only 2 short of Hendry's record having recently won the 2013 World Championship at The Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
Can this sensational young player achieve this feat? He is looking good having recently won the dumbed down UK Championship with fantastic wins over the likes of legends like Martin O'Donnell and Tom Ford, and a brilliant comeback final frame victory over BBC commentator Ken Doherty.
So can this lad reach the snooker summit by winning 3 more World crowns? This will no doubt make him the GOAT even if we are in midst of the worst standard of snooker in living memory where it appears you have to be a snooker pensioner to win anything of note.

Thank you Vodka. I did actually think he was a big favourite to win, and was surprised that he lost that match.

Won't get to six, let alone eight.
David Lilley is the one to watch for.

Yes, Badsnookerplayer. That happens most years. The pressure is too much for the lad.

Ronnie has at least one more World Title for him.
If he finishes his career on five I'd be amazed.
As fashionable as it has become amongst his fans to pretend he doesn't have a chance.
A bit like it was fashionable to pretend he wouldn't win any more events because he lost a few finals, and lost to Michael Holt on a few occasions.

Spot on.
I must say after ROS lost to his bunny Carter this year, I did not believe he would win another, but this SightRight thing seems to have risen his confidence, and last season he came to the Worlds tired, this season there wont be that problem.
I truly believe he can win a 6th, a 7th seems out of reach now but you never know...

Lol yeah, I forgot Tony Chappel, Neal Foulds, rookie Alan McManus, Danny Fowler, Barry West, Dean Reynolds and countless others Hendry faced in his UK wins are the stuff of nightmares.

1993 is often cited as Hendry’s best performance at a World Championship. This is how the snooker world looked back then.
1993 top eight: Hendry, Parrott, White, Davis, Wattana, McManus, Thorne, Griffiths.
2004 is often cited as O’Sullivan’s greatest World Championship performance. This was how the snooker world looked back then:
2004 top eight: O’Sullivan, Williams, Hendry, Hunter, Higgins, Stevens, Doherty, Ebdon.
No comparison.

That 2004 top eight is one of the best ever. I’d be interested to see a better top eight list.

2004 is a stunning top eight. And Stephen Lee was ninth!

In 2004 O'Sullivan only had to beat debutant Maguire; Hicks: Hamilton; a well past his best Hendry; and Dott.
What an incredibly difficult draw!!!!

I was not aware of that.
Is that the easiest run ever?

Maybe. Although in 2008 it was Liu Chuang; his bunny Mark Williams; debutant Wenbo; a miles past it Hendry; and Carter.
Pathetically easy draws.

Suppose it adds value to Selbys wins, all of which have involved epic matches against top players.
I dunno - just very surprising.
Are you sure those runs are correct??

No I trust you.
Just very surprised how easy they were.
Still - you can only beat what is put in front of you. It was not his fault.

Since all of Ronnie's wins are easy/weak era, that means all of Hendry's, Higgins and Selby's wins vs Ronnie don't mean anything since Ronnie is a weak player if all he does is win with weak draws. You'd do well to remember that. So you want to make Hendry's era even more weak than it already was?

O'Sullivan is a good player. He would have won 3 world titles even if he had been born in the same year as Hendry. But he would have had to wait for Hendry to decline before winning a World title.

Hicks aside (who, oddly, gave him his toughest match) how is that in any way an easy draw? Maguire-Hamilton-Hendry-Dott. That would only ever be considered easy for O’Sullivan.
Hendry was as good in 2004 as he’d ever been. It was just no longer enough.

Hendry might have had to wait until 1999 for his first and last major!

Of course he was. His 13-12 victory over Barry Pinches in the 2nd round was one of the highlights of his career.
