What is the status of the General Cup? I mean it's not on World Snooker's website. So is the tournament sanctioned by them or is it just a completely seperate invitational?

If the Tournament is Televised in any way shape or form it will have to receive the World Snooker Sanction otherwise im not sure.
But it is not part of the Main Tour

This event is not run by world snooker. Can we add it to the invitational events section ?

I love the way this is pinned.
This hot topic of conversation, about this prestigious entry in the World Snooker calendar.

The two players that has made it through to the Semi finals are Mark Williams and Zhang Anda.
Remaining fixtures is a streight Knockout as to who will join them
Joe Perry v Michael White
and
Marco Fu v Michael Holt

Looking at the head-to-heads on Cuetracker:
Michael White 3-0 Mark Williams Surprising!
x1 PTC but x2 in ranking tournaments, including in the semi-finals of the 2015 Indian Open which White went on to win.
Marco Fu 1-0 Zhang Anda (in a PTC)
Granted this is a relatively minor invitational competition, but
Mighty Mouse could be on the verge of a first Pro-tournament victory!

This is getting a bit annoying.
Last year, this forum was collectively going; "Waaah! We're picking people based on rankings, not based on what they've won."
Now we're going; "*sniff* But, they're picking people because small trophies, not because they're big names."
No pleasing you people, is there?

Just looked at the draw - and, without wanting to put a curse on Marco Fu - he's got a 'decent' draw.
I expect him to reach the last-16.
His route:
Last 128 v Hatem Yassen
Last 64 (probably v Yu Delu)
Last 32 (probably v David Gilbert)
Last 16 (probably v Shaun Murphy)
