Snooker players middle finger tap

Anyone knows why some snooker players aare doing little tap on the cloth with their bridge hand middle finger?

Some says because Tony Meo brought it and now people just copy that.

Some says because of a "line of tension running down their arms as they cue up".

I tap my can of beer before I open it. It's supposed to prevent fizz over when the can is opened.

Dunno if it makes any difference.
