Tournament Suggestions (and a few other suggestions)
Whilst nobody would want to return to the dark days when only the World Championship counted towards rankings, thankfully long before I was born, or the dark days of 6 ranking events a year there surely must be questions to be answered about the sheer volume of tournaments now giving the PTC running at 12 events and a potential 12 ranking events these season. This excluding all the other non-ranking, pro-am and invitational events. Would it not be better to have a system where their was the following tournaments with the criteria stipulated.
Major Ranking Events
The World Championship - All tour players must take part in qualifying or if they are seeded take their seeding place unless they have a bloody good reason not to (like their in a coma, retired or suspended etc).
The UK Championship- All tour players must take part in qualifying or if they are seeded take their seeding place unless they have a bloody good reason not to (coma, suspension, retired etc)
The Masters- all those invited must take up their invitation place unless they've got a bloody good reason not to.
Minor Ranking Events[
(players should be required in their contract to attend at least two of these events)
World Open - players should be expected but not forced to take their places
International Championship- players should be expected but not forced to take their place
China Open- players should be expected but not forced to take up their places
European Championship (new ranker I'd introduce to be held in a different European Country each year): players should be expected but not forced to take up their places.
Players Tour Championships
Cut it down to 8 events- Players should expected but not forced to take up their places.
Other non-ranking events
Tour players should be forbidden from entering non-ranking events that take place at the same time as a ranking event or PTC.
Notes
The ranking points system should run one a 1 year non-rolling points based system that should retain the Top 64 players for the next seasons beginning in their positions but do it by ranking points earned in the new season, it will encourage more of the top players to attend lesser events to hold their top 16 place.
Also the season should run from September to May non of this rubbish starting in June rubbish.
