Ebdon only won 6 or 7

10 before 2004 and 1 in the last 8 years

Ebdons won 7 rankers in the 15 year period.

the fact for me is that Hendrys won 1 major after age 27 and that was at age 30 is the big question mark over him

how could he go from being so "great" to an also ran almost overnight.

12 and a half years since he won a Major yet he still kids himself on he can be a force in the game.

the longevity of Davis and latter achievements for me definetly narrows the gap to Hendry, infact throw into the equation that Davis has won more titles and hardly any of his early titles were classed as rankers then theres a case for Davis.

Oops i think ive veered off topic :john:

Sod 8 years you said 15 years now you changing the goalpost.

in the last 15 years Stephen Hendry has been the 4th most succesfull snooker player

Hes Played in 3 World Finals 4 UK Finals and 3 Masters Finals

buck me theres no competition.

in the Last 15 years Hendry has played 24 Ranking Finals with the Last in 2006

John Higgins 27 Finals Last in 2011

Ronnie O'Sullivan 28 Finals Last in 2010

Mark Williams 26 Finals Last in 2011

now then i think Nobody else on that list Comes even Remotely close to them 4 in the last 15 years.

thats the point Hendry in 8 years won more than most in 15.

the last 5 or 6 years been shambolic.

Regarding Stevens, people do forget how good a player he was. He's remembered for losing two World Finals, and one of those being against a qualifier. Somewhat harshly as he was a UK Champion and Masters Champion. So he was no mug. And people conveniently forget how Murphy has been a top player since that win.

I think since the defeat to Murphy in the final though, his best days are behind him sadly. Though he did have a couple of decent runs again last season, before that match against Mark Allen at The Crucible.

being top class don't really cut it you got to reach finals and win them Murphy hardly done neither even Mark Williams with those wilderness years after 2004 where he fell to 47th provisionally has won more and reached more finals since 2005.

thats Why Neil Robertsons achievement should not be underestimated hes done the business consistently the last 6 years.

Stevens was an excellent player, vastly underrated in my opinion. I think people struggled to put him in a similar bracket to other top players because he was horrendous choker, but for many years at the Crucible he was always there or thereabouts... and he won two majors, in spite of his lack of bottle. So I don't forget how good he was for a second, I was a big fan of his actually.

there are many other players that fall in to Stevens category of player and he has definitly over the last 15 years been in the top 10 disregarding the top 3

1 Hendry
2 Ebdon
3 Doherty
4 Robertson
5 Hunter
6 Ding
7 Murphy
8 Dott
9 Stevens
10 Selby

obviously over the last 5 years that list would be so different,

Past five years, including the big three?

1. Higgins
2. O'Sullivan
3. Robertson
4. Ding
5. Selby

The 00's
1. O'Sullivan (look at titles won, he HAD to be the best of the 00's)
2. Higgins
3. Williams
4. Hendry
5. Ebdon

nah if its purely on the 00's then Ebdon is ahead of Hendry.

Ebdon won WC and UK, Hendry didnt win any majors in the 00s and didnt even win a ranker in the last 5 years of the decade

puerly on the last 10 years i would not put Hendry in the top 5
