This bugs me, in the good ole days there was Camaraderie among the players with social circles of gamblers, drinkers etc and some real fun to be had off the table. Now things are professional these faceless wonders live like monks.

Get out on the drink or hit the casino in between matches, live your life, your only young once, no point moping about feeling sorry for yourself.

These should be the best years of your life Allen.

Take a leaf out of Knowles, White, Higgins and Hanns book by preparing for a morning session at the Crucible by hitting a nightclub till the early hours.

I gotta say I think that's pretty god damn ignorant in my opinion, but I guess you'll always get opinions that differ, so fair enough.

Certainly not trying to make anyone feel sorry for Allen, but responses like that do grate with me.....

No, telling someone to just get on with it doesn't work. But I won't dwell on it as he's entitled to his opinion. Anyway, I won't be getting too deep into it

Yeah it's all just opinions. Everyone is different. I'm just saying I see where witz is coming from, he just has a way of putting things. There is rather a lot of pampering going on these days in comparison to decades gone by when you just took the rubbish and got on with things.

if its clinical depression i agree you just cant do that but there are people that would benefit from that kick up the ass to get them out of it....you sometime get in to a rut and think "is this all i got in life" and just feel sorry for themselves im not judging mark because i dont know how he feels but from a outsider looking in i think a littlebit of tough love would do him good.

Just to make one thing clear, I don't agree with wrapping everyone up in cotton wool either, a bit of tough love is no harm in my opinion, I just simply don't agree with telling someone with depression the get over themselves and go on the snake hiss and pretend everything is okay...

A good friend of mine is clinically depressed and her family have it all...

Rumours were his Mrs was playing away :shy:

I listened last week to Geoffrey Boycott, the former England cricketer, giving his ill informed views about a player who had been diagnosed with depression. It was clear some people still think it's a case of 'just cheer up.'

That's a bit like telling someone with a broken leg to go and run a marathon.

and

I understand he simply couldn't get on the plane to play in the Hainan Classic.

Just seen an article on Eurosport confirming that he has depression, Mark is my favourite player and such a rising talent in the game of Snooker, one of my family members went through the depression stage and it is a very sad thing to go through. Wish him all the best and hope he can have a good run at the World Championships again.

At least he has an easy Round 1 match. :hatoff:

Allen. what a hammer. Never liked him.

He has depression? i bucking doubt it. None with depression says that in public or even understands that he is sick.

Just making excuses cause he hasnt reached his potential. I am earning something like 50k/year and I am working 14 hours a day. He earns that in a week. Give me a break Allen. If you were depressed go and fell from a cliff and dont break our balls.

Depression or lethargy?

Whatever it is, it would be a shame if his talent goes to waste. He's always been a hard practicer from what i've heard so something's obviously affected him, and I for one hope he works out the problem and gets back to winning ways asap <ok>

Re: Mark Allen battling depression

Yeah I love watching him as a player and he seems like a decent bloke when you meet him so I wish no ill on him. Just think a good manager would give him a slap round the chops and get his bottom into gear and he'll be winning tournaments in no time.
