Ian Doyle, Hendrys long time manager confirmed to me recently that Jimmy actually got a KICK on that black but Jimmy being the nice modest guy that he is, didnt make an issue of it and was gracious in defeat

Interestingly, most are ranked quite lowly. I firmly believe that the more inventive players are rewarded for being just that, while players lacking adventure remain in the doldrums.

Hatred (or hate) is a deep and emotional extreme dislike, directed against a certain snooker player. Though not necessarily, hatred is often associated with feelings of anger and disposition towards hostility against the snooker player.


So there we have it, hatred is just dislike on a higher scale, so there effectively the same thing

Whats exciting to one person can be boring for another.

Some defines Boring as being a Slow Player whitch is very wrong

if he gets his first title......and lets be perfectly honest he doesn't look like getting a quarter final never mind a title.

lets see some balls first then get excited by what he brings.

A player who has the most likely possibility to entertain and amaze.
A player a fan would invest personally in... buy tickets to see; skip school or work to watch;
lock the door and turn of the phone to catch on TV.

Comparisons are possible. Two top players. Technically "perfect" two 147's.

Both 147's are all time classics. I would go for the Ronnie one. I remember Williams in the post match interview saying "No one else can do that and make it look so easy" and he was right.


As for what constitutes an exciting player - each to their own. Selby and Williams have me on the edge of my seat and so do Liang and Cope. Why? God knows, they just do.

I agree with Sonny - each to their own.

I like to be emotionally "involved" in the game, so players who show their emotions, positive or negative - and allow the viewer to play the game "with" them appeal to me (this can be "draining" actually, maybe that's why I'm not really a fan of long formats). I also highly value touch, brains, imagination and creativity. So fav players to watch for me: Ronnie, Mark Williams, Mark Selby ... and Anthony Hamilton (yes)

At the opposite end, what really infuriates and frustrates me are players with tremendous abilities who spoil their talent by playing stupidly. So players who enter in this box (not always but too often) are: Cope and Liang.

PS: reading the first paragraph one should expect that I'm "excited" by Ebdon. Not so. I just can't get into the mind of the psycho probably ...

I would say I would be excited most by imagination & creativity also... if I could pick my favourite players to watch I'd say O'Sullivan, Williams, Trump, Ebdon, Selby, White (older clips that is), Ding & Trump

Exciting players usually make everything they do look effortless. That's the main difference between a peak O'Sullivan and a peak Hendry. Hendry was attacking but he always looked like an ultimate professional who dedicated himself to hours of practice. O'Sullivan & White had more flair in their game and seemed more laidback. Martin Gould’s performance in the first two sessions against Neil Robertson last year was the most exciting performance recently. It wasn't just that he was winning but the way he was doing it and the type of shot he was playing. He hit several aggressive safeties which split the pack open and left Robertson having to take on long pots under pressure knowing if he missed the frame was probably over.
