The underrated stat

The All-Time Career professional titles won - stat is far too underrated and should be included in all GOAT or All-Time Great debates. We know that the number of ranking titles has often changed over the years and we get more or less of them. Thats why the professional career titles won - stat is as important as the ranking event tally when comparing players from different generations.

This stat proves big time how far the Top3 are actually ahead of the rest (and its Steve Davis who is leading here). Its a big gap between them and the 4th position currently held by John Higgins with 49 titles. Based on this stat there is no way Higgins can be put above Davis in the All-Time Great list. And the likes of Williams and Selby are miles behind with their 33 wins.

Trump also deserves credit that despite underachieving in the TC events (so far at least) he has won more professional titles already than ATG players Selby or Williams and you expect him to surpass Higgins as well in this particular stat.

IIRC a large proportion of those non-rankers against Davis’ name were little more than pimped up exhibition matches cooked up by Hearn.

It's possible to objectively measure the strength of tournaments by looking at the lengths of the matches and the strength of the field. At some point I'll get around to doing that, and we can forever dismiss the stupid disticntions between 'ranking events', 'non-ranking events', 'minor ranking events', etc.
