Mark Selby, Scottish Open 2003

Postby SnookerFan

I just came across this footage, that Roland must've posted back when Snooker Island had a YouTube account.

I was a fairly new fan in 2003, didn't have Sky Sports so tended to only see the BBC events.

Fair play to Selby, reaching a ranking event as a teenager. I actually had no idea this happened. I was under the impression that his first ranking final appearance was when he lost to Higgins in The Crucible Final. (BBC commentator level knowledge.)

That's it. That's the post.

What terrible lottery joke?

In an early final which he lost, he attempted a lottery based joke, wasn't funny then, wouldn't be funny now, never heard him say anything remotely funny so can only presume the jester is in the nickname simply because it rhymes with the word Leicester

Was it offensive in any way?

Or are you just crabbing that somebody made a joke that didn't land more than eighteen years ago?

Not offensive at all no, one thing you can say for him is that he doesn't conduct himself like a lout unlike some other players.

So you're upset that a guy made a joke that you didn't find funny more than 18 years ago?
